It's slower than pc, but not so slow on fast machine like last G4 or of course G5. Need some memory, and a good graphic card. If you have an old one ike ati rage or geforcemx it's a major problem.

I have a G4 Dual 1GHZ with 897 meg of RAM, and for now i'm satisfied with it, because it render fast with Carrara and work well with all other applications. About the graphic card i have GeForce4 MX (it's good enough??). Thanks -TOXE |

It's not the best one, but not the poorest ![]() Ati in most case like 8500 or 900 /9700 go faster.

I'll wait for money to buy a G5 in the next year, don't want to upgrade my graphic card now, i've spend a lot of money this month to buy Amapi Pro, Adobe Creative suite, Ilife, Tascam us-122 and AKG microphone and finally a resonator guitar. When you have two big passion (3d and music) the money are not always enough  -TOXE |

héhéhéhé, i understand ![]() It's not because you haven't the best graphic card/processor that mean you can't work. 50 % of time i'mworking on an ibook G3 800 with Amapi. And it's ok, not fast, but that work fine

A NURBS object has a lot more polygons in it (because it auto-smoothes its surface after each edit/change) than if you made the same object in polygon mode. A faster CPU should help with NURBS. A faster video card won't help because the polygons of an object are hidden in NURBS view anyway.

amapi designer and amapi pro now has a realy slow interface and special with nurbs. NURBS tool calculations take sometimes very long in my taste to long for rapid design explorations. special when i activated the crack free nurbs tes. amapi slowed down a lot. i am using the trial version so i dont know if speed issues are fixed in the 7.15 patch. claas |

It is still slow in 7.15. Crack-Free NURBS should be enabled once you are finished with a model. Normal NURBS should be used during modeling. You can tweak the Crack-Free settings to reduce the polygons a bit if you need to model with it enabled.

shooner that is interesting that i should only activate crack free nurbs after finishing modeling. why? i am serious i just dont know it? is the crack free mode only usefull for later tesseltion into a polymesh? i know that we use rhino at school and we convert the nurbs always into polygones befor we print it. claas |

Yes, the crack free teslation is used only to check your model before the export or convertions to polygons... It's not the best for modeling. Or like me, work in adaptive tesslation, then, check sometimes in crack free and go back to adaptive to finish your work. At last, Amapi is slower on mac, but what is your Mac, video card, etc.. ;) |

i have a dual g4 1.25. that should not be that problem. screen refresh when i rate the camera and sooming is fine. just the nurbs calculations are a bit slow sometimes. special when i switch between different programs amapis interface needs some time to rebuild. but other wise its fine. claas |

I use the Smooth Tool in Amapi Pro 7 to switch back and forth between Crack-Free and Normal NURBS. I model in Normal mode and flip to Crack-Free mode to see how a model looks so far before exporting. The faster your CPU is and the more RAM you have, the more you can work in Crack-Free mode. But Normal mode will be even faster to work in still. Modeling in Crack-Free mode isn't as easy as modeling in Normal mode when using 4-sided polys because Amapi Pro 7.15 wants to convert your quad facets to triangles in Crack-Free mode (even if you have "make quads" enabled).
