First, that cind of modeling, are not really mode for apply a subpatch on it, because topology are no made for this.

Before exporting in obj, colaps all level of DG (dynamic géometrie), but keep the nurbs.
Clic on the smooth tool, and clic on adaptative/crack free option. In the parameter you have some setting for the conversion in polygonal … while do that, switch to polygon for see the result in real time … change the number 20 by defaut in "Max angle" by maybe 10 … validate if your ok.

Non you can collapse your model for make it in polygonal. Then export to obj.

In lw, merge points if needed, and make your render without patch.

you have a perfect shape.

i've made a fast test like your exemple pictures, and put all step file in a zip archive.
Download it here :
http://3dworkshop.free.fr/amapi/probj/Archive.zip
Here what i see after exporting the obj from a crack free tesselation of a nurbs surfaces, and open in an other 3D apps than amapi.

Try not to use the Standard NURBs mode. Use the Crack-Free NURBs mode instead.

If Lightwave can import 3DS format from Amapi 7, you might be in good shape.

The A3P files won't open.
i've try on 6 different computer (2 mac, and 4 pc) all file work.
i've try to import the obj in lw7.5, work fine too.

What's wrong with your computer/software here ?

3ds ? Hum, use the obj, better file format, an lw open it wihtout any problem here …
