Need suggestions on best program to use

Hi,

My experience is primarily with BSP editor tools like Hammer, Torque Constructor, and Ued. I'm interested in creating buildings for games, but it seems like with the newer game engines (Cryengine, etc...) i need to start working with mesh editors. My question is, are there any reasonably priced programs that are geared towards building architecture that can be used in a wide variety of game engines? I'm a hobbyist, and i have not found much that is not extremely expensive or geared primarily (it seems)for character models. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Google Skeetchup is free for hobbyist and seems the best for any building architectures

Yes, Sketchup maybe what you are looking for.

However, any polygon modeler will allow you to make buildings.

For free try Blender - modeling and everything else
http://www.blender.org/

For low cost poly modeling look at Silo:

Nurbs modeling with MoI may also do the job as it has an excellent polygon exporter. Very easy to use as well:

But first download Sketchup and have a go - it costs nothing and it may be all you need .

+1 for Blender

(does Sketchup export the formats needed for game engines?)

At least you can try Blender at no cost, and if it doesn't do what you want to accomplish, you can always switch to another software.

Some month ago there was a video tutorial to create an house, over at BlenderArtists web-site. It was really well explained, and could give you an overview about game level creation. Try to look for... Bruzzi I think was the user posting the tutorial; he was referring to his own house building.

Whith the pro version yes
With the free version, you must export in KMZ format and use a Blender Python Script for reload it and then save as you want

Thanks for the replies!

While researching some of these I came across the XSI Mod Tool (free) as well. They have an exporter for Crysis and it works for Source and XNA games. Now it's time to learn how to model, . Lot's of videos to watch, but now i'm pumped. It's definitely a different mindset, but there are some similarities to the BSP editors i've used...
