[Carrara]Propagate scaling?

Hi,

I had this question at DAZ forum and it looks as if it will not be answered.
Could you maybe help me?
- - - - - - - - -
On C6, Properties panel, Motion tab; there is Propagate scaling check box for which I cannot find any reference in the PDF manual.

I don't speak English as my mother tongue, so could someone explain in easy to understand fashion what that thingy means and does?

This function is used to apply scaling (in the "Overall" box) to a group (basicaly, a character set up with bones is also a group). This way, all the grouped objects are scaled the same way, otherwise, only the selected object will be scaled.

Thanks Piem.

Since one can scale a regular group without that option checked and have it affect each independent object within the group, I presume you specifically mean that propagate scaling applies to scaling a child object of a boned character so that every other child item of that character (group) gets scaled evenly?

Or do I still miss something here? Would there be some difference having it checked or unchecked regarding scaling regular groups (like a grouped sphere and cube)?

Try this:
make two spheres and drag the last one onto the first (in the scene tree), so you have a group.
Now try to scale the parent sphere with both: uncheked and checked.

In the first case the children sphere is offset but not scaled, in the other case, both are scaled.

Ok, I see what you mean!
I first thought of having the whole group selected and then scaling, but you actually meant that a child item of a group be selected and then scaled. That indeed makes a difference when scaling and having the option checked.

Good advice from you and a good feature from the developers!

Thanks,
Markku
