I don't do a lot of modeling, but when I do I start with a box and work from there. I smooth to see what it will look like then go back and work with the unsmoothed. I'll sub-divide as necessary to get more polygons. Here's a couple of tutorials from Glen Southern that I found useful: http://www.southerngfx.co.uk/general...s/tutorial.htm
