impossible to go to the edit mode - Polyloop

I'm using zbrush 3, I imported an obj file, then tried to go to edit mode.
It was not possible , the "edit" button was greyed out.
So I closed zbrush and opened it again and same problem.
WHY????

Just after doing the drag of your mesh, the Edit button is unavailble?
Please, write all your exact step, it will help understanding what is wrong.
