looking for 3D sculpting with DirectX viewport

Hi,
The title says it all actually. I had been looking at Hexagon, ZBrush and Carrara for the kind of modeling they offer, but I need the viewports to be rendered in DirectX. A monitor I'm buying can display Directx real-time render in stereographic mode. I have asked about Mudbox and have gotten a Yes and a No. No's for Hexagon, Zbrush, Carrara. Yes for 3DSMax but Max it isn't what I'm looking for unless MaxSculpt is on par with Hex/Mudbox/ZBrush. No for Blender. Yes for XSI as choice for viewport. Yes for 3DBrush, a new ZBrush type of software. Can anyone give me a definitive verdict about this for Mudbox? I realize it's an OPenGL based program, but I hear the viewport is rendered in DirectX.
Thanks!

You'll find that Direct X is few and far between in the world of 3D software. Max and XSI are the only big ones that I know of. I do believe that Truespace is big on Direct X.

trueSpace has a real time DirectX interface. Not sure what you need for steroscopic view. They have a free download at their calagari website.

It has modeler, animation and a deformation brush I believe. No sculpting like Zbrush or Mudbox.

But everything you see in the workspace side I believe it is called is in realtime, including shadows, shaders and deformation. It's like having a rendered product that is on all the time.

Truthfully Direct X is not made for this type of application. 3DS Max and XSI really only display Direct X for shader creation. Plus Direct X performance when you get into the millions of polys is way less than OpenGL... that is why Mudbox and Zbrush along with most of the other 3D applications use OpenGL.

So I am afraid that it will be very hard pressed to find a good sculpting application that uses Direct X. Nature of the buisness I'm afraid.

Good luck!
