Flatten a Sphere!

I have 7.52. For the life of me I can not get the scale tool to work!
I have this Nurbs Sphere and want to flatten it as per the Mouse Tute.

(I feel a real nurd---I have run out of different ideas! I know it should be simple!)

OK I found the answer, untick the thingy down the bottom of the left had corner! Jeeze!

Boy I hope the universal manipulator is in A8!

untick what thingy in the bottom left corner ??
to scale just click on the scale tool and use the spacebar to toggle axis i seem to recall.

no, thats just click and drag i agree
to scale accurately use the size box you can enter XYZ values in there.
