| Pixar want to hire me! ![]() | I learned to model in Amapi 6, Amapi D7 was better to work with. Hexagon 1 is a great poly modeler, pretty easy to use after Amapi, some new and better tools, no swiping to tire out your hand. I think Hex 2.2 is a really good product although there seems to be a bug if you are trying to do Poser morphs. I don't, so it doesn't affect me. Some people seem to have problems, but I think if you have a strong computer, a good video card, and you model in a logical straightforward manner, Hexagon will do really well for you. Most of the problems are from people trying to take shortcuts and force the program to do things it wasn't designed to do. |

| Extrusion ![]() | Thanx Patrick:-) I also found an DVD Training Hexagon at www.vtc.com. Seems nice, but pricy! Im also interested in Hex. dxf. output. How does it mesh up models, quads or bunch of triangles. Do you have an instant display of you mesh (like in Amapi when using poly mode display with edges) |

| Lick it up ![]() | Well... in the Eovia's time the products were more expensive, while reasonnabily cheap. One can assume that Daz has extra income sources - like content - and that Hexagon/Carrara could be considered as some give away ? ![]()

| Box modeling ![]() | Ringo mentioned in this thread: "My personal point of view is that in the last we months DAZ 3D has shown that they are committed to the further development of their software applications. Carrara 6 is part of that proof and DAZ 3D has wonderful plans for future developments. The Dynamic Clothing plugin that is coming for DAZ Studio is also coming for Carrara 6 later on. Plus they now have additional developers in the MountainView offices for the development of Carrara & hexagon and they have additional developers for the Utah division of DAZ Studio, Bryce, Mimic. The company has been re-branded to DAZ 3D, new website and forums are in place. Blogs are in place. Upcoming expanded Wiki for software and much more. The company is growing very fast." |

Here's mine. Don't be bamboozled by pricing. I had Modo. I use Hexagon for most of my modeling. It is a matter of what you need and what you are comfy with. My opinion is that Modo required a lot of dancing around to get where I wanted to go, Hex seemed to do it in a more straight forward way. I also have Mudbox, Silo, Blender and a few others that are gathering dust. As an illustrator working against deadlines, I find that Hexagon for me is a slam-dunk proposition that chugs right along. I recommend that you check some of the Hexagon threads in this forum, paying particular attention to the work of Thomas... as one of the development team for the original Hexagon, he knows the software. Also check some of the web sites of some of the artists you see in this forum and others who are using Hexagon. Download the demo and give it a run. Do the same for other programs. I did recently buy and am learning ZBrush, but I don't feel it replaces Hexagon. For sculpting the model, adding extremely fine detail and 3D painting that actually works (I hate messing with uvs and unwrapping, etc.) Z is truly incredible. To build the base model, Hex is my choice. I like and use other 3D software, but Hex is one of my favorite tools. I do rendering and composition in Carrara.... sure there are other more costly software programs, but I don't plan to do any Speilburg productions, so most of them carry a lot of baggage I can't use. (Ok, DAZ... where's my nickel commission? )Last edited by Nate Owens : 8th September 2007 at 04:35. | |

To be honest, the more I try to hate Hex (mostly because of it's unstability), the more I love it. What I really like in modo and miss in Hex is the ability to make selection based on statistics and marco recording. But I'm not too sure I will use modo 301.
