Problematic Pivot Point

I am getting angry. No matter how hard I try, I cant set the pivot point to the center of the object. Not that big of a deal one might say? Try selecting faces & edges, then rotate them. Now you see what I have to go throgh. Is this a known bug? It seems to be happening a lot ever since I installed the 2.2 update. Maybe is it possible to type in a set of numbers that determine where the pivot point goes? Or am I just going to have to get it as close to the center as I can get it, and just live with it?

Making sure your object is always in Position 0,0 and 0 makes life a lot easier.

(Not that they are exactly that in this screen shot!)

That doesn't exactly help. The object may be at 0, 0, 0, bit the pivot point is not.

If you set it so that you can view the manipilator, you'll see that it's not in the center of the object. I need it to be in the center. if you try rotating edges or faces, it rotates oddly.

Thats exactly what I did, but it won't stick to the center. At least, not for me.

It worked fine for me? Have a couple more fiddles to make sure you have not done things the wrong way. Iwill try to"make a mistake" if I can also.

The attachment for others. Good learning trying to answer questions!

You managed to get it directly on the center green dot? Heh. I guess I've got to fiddle around with it a bit more.

Well I could not do it again???? That was on my grouped file anyway.

HOWEVER in the process (forget about all before)

Open as shown in image one. Then click where I show in image 2.
Violins!. The pivot point is where it should be.

Shazam! it works! Sorta. I clicked the lightning bolt (collapse dynamic geo) on smoothing level zero, and shazam! it works!

At times it may be more workable to only click on the line BELOW the lightening bolt.

This is just a guess, but I think when you have dynamic geo activated, there is an (invisible) deformer cage around the object. Perhaps the center aligns with the center of the cage deformer rather than the object... just guessing, will give it a try sometime - so far I don't recall having problems with getting the rotater placed where I want it.

That's right Nate, the cage is actually light pink I think and visible and if you have DG applied on an object with overlapping points or edges it can throw the "center" of the object off. Eric, A lot of what people call bugs are actually the way it is 'supposed' to work... Some of these things are actually good indicators that you have something wrong with the model and without these tell-tale signs you might never know. Looks like you did a fairly nice job on Patrick's guitar tut, it covers some pretty important ground.

Great, Couerl, Thanks for the tip.
Maybe someday that sort of thing will be in the manual.
I've used Hex for a while - it continues to grow on me.
