I don't understand..

the first picture you show is exactly what you have to do ..

To Select the cylinder
To Click on the tool you've targeted in the picture (copy on support)
To Click on the circle
To See and set the option in the properties (but they are empty in your image)
And validate.

Brian,

Indeed you can. With the cylinder selected click the copy-on-support button that you indicated in your screenshot. Then click on the circle. Hex will create a group with the copoied objects. See screenshot. Clicking through options 1 - 5 changes the orientation of your first object. Here, 3 resembles best of what you want.

Hth,
Wim

Thankyou both. I tried that about 10 times and it would not work. That time it did--CRAZY!

However, I had to use the 4 setting--which seems odd?

No idea what I could have been doing wrong before.

As a note of interest perhaps. In Carrara it seems you can Boolean Add a replicator group to an object but NOT Boolean subtract that Replicator group?

Thanks again.

This is a rough proof of the idea I was trying to do in Hex. What a lot of time I wasted!

I wish I knew why I had all that trouble before--I feel positive I was doing just the same in my many tries as when it worked,

Page 201 of the manual. Don't any of you people read manuals anymore?!

Seriously,...

It looks like you have a level of DG applied to the circle you were trying to copy to and that's why it is yellow in your screenshot. Don't ask me how you managed that, but it may have been the problem.

The copy on support function is a basic tool in Hex, but it can take a little while to understand how the different parameters behave. Here's a couple simple screencaps:

HTH,

Steven

Yes. I looked up the Help , watched the Movie. I HAD done it a lot of times before. I did swith off DG etc (tried everything). Very maddening. Though I can not remember trying to do it to a circle before .

I will try and reproduce again today just out of curosity.

A little journey of discovery!
I have in preferences selected "Create Coloured Objects"
The edges in lines have differnt variations of the blue range of colours mostly it seems. Exception being that, for the circle from centre, the edges are normally yellow--MOSTLY (note)?.

BOOBOOs by brian.

What I was doing was, selecting the cylinder, clicking on copy on support--THEN--for whatever madness of mind delusion--clicking back on the cylinder--not on the circle!

How I kept on repeating that stupidy I will never know. And I only had 2 stubbies of Coopers Stout!

Well, it's a brave man who can admit a mistake.. Kudos to you for figuring it out.. I strongly recommend people leave the preferences alone until they master the program first. It's just not all that simple to learn to use it to begin with (any modeler that is) and takes a lot of time and dedication.

P.S. It reminds me of all this dual screen talk going on lately too, I'd say (and this might sound a tad cynical and perhaps it's meant to) learn to model in one screen first and then worry about the second one...
