| Feedback from v2.2??
Hey all, For those of you who have updated what's the scoop? I've read mixed threads about the update. I'm sure there are others like myself who want to know if it's worth updating yet OR is it more of a hassle? Especially for the Mac folks! Thanks gang! -Dooki

The update is FREE! It's pretty good I think--I need to relearn my working habits back to the Hex way--but what I see is that it IS the best modelling app around. As Mark Bremmer says, Hexagon now meets the excitement of working quality that was originally implied.

I'm finding good things and some things that aren't perhaps so good. Firstly, the seams issues aren't quite there yet, but they may be a little better and I'm seeing spikey's on .car export that weren't there before in 2.1. No spikeys on .obj that I can see. The material pallette underwent some changes and I can't figure out how to use the same material on a different domain anymore, whereas before I could use the same material on any domain. Maybe I'm missing something, but I doubt it. On the plus side, I can use Hex on my Laptop now with the new Intel Graphics drivers for the 945GM. The Intel shitbox graphics chipsets finally work to the point where the app is useable. (I'll still do all my modeling on my desktop, but it's nice to know if I want to go somewhere that I can model on a trip now or whatever). AO in modeling is either very much improved or disabled. ;) I can take good snapshots anyway and that's all I ever bothered to begin with. The modeling tools themselves don't seem to be too much affected, but it's a bit too early still to say. So far I give it a B and am not ready to say "underwhelmed" like some others have. I do beleive for 3 out of 4 Mac users this will make Hex more useable as AO seemed to be a big problem on 75% of Mac machines. In the end it doesn't matter since I still have 2.1 on my machines and the only problem I ever had to begin with was seams and for stills they could be dealt with in 2D anyway. I give them a big pat on the back for trying anyway and its good to know they're getting their feet wet with the code. That gives me hope that there will be a Hex-3 at some point after all and that's good news. |

I've never had much fun fixing hex seams. Maybe for simple meshes this would be okay but not for more complex organic ones. One of the major benefits of 3d painting is avoiding seams to begin with. Hex seems much more stable and is still a great subd modeler. It also seems to handle bigger meshes without choking. But I'm surprised they didn't fix seams as it makes the sexier aspects of hex unusable. Maybe it needs a complete overhaul or something and went in the too hard basket. Overall I'm not too worried as 3d-Brush works well and is more powerful than hex for 3d painting, which is cool. |

Haven't had a chance to get in 2.2 yet. Any news on symmetry displacement - Is the brush still pulling displacement strength on 1 side more than the other? This is by far the biggest complaint I had with the program.... painting issues aside.

my 2 cents H2.2 seems to be more stable thought for sure it would crash on couple tool uses it didnt i kept thinking Save Now? Save Now? 2.2 loads slower than 2.1 tho but maybe thats a blessing... if i wanted any changes add ons would be rigging and increase the ranges of subdivision from 0to the moon right now half way to moon and all the way past the galaxy is a hinderance to me. Otherwise is better than 2.1 so far |

Hey all, Well I updated my mac version (see stats below, but now 1.25RAM). Haven't had much to dink with it. -I played with the paint/scupt brush tools. Made a cube and increased to level 4,5. Still very sluggish. Extruded a shape and increased to level4, again very sluggish. - Like what others have said, I can't see anything major yet. I suppose I will not the lack of crashing as I go a long. This in itself will be nice!! - So I still have the "AO" option for the MAC. I thought I read somewhere that the mac version took out the AO option. I still have it. Hmmmm. - Have not tried the PC version yet. -Dooki

Well, I've had a little time to check out v2.2 WOW! SOOO much more stable. I am running on my emac with 768 RAM and with the earlier versio I had to save so many times that I went back to version 1.2! I haven't noted any real tool changes but that's OK. The stability is worth the upgrade! I had some problems importing jpg reference images that I used before. They came out all scrambled. Attached is my first model in v2.2. I will try the paint tools next. -Dooki

when installing Hex2.2 it says on languages English and French(standard) hmm does that imply something about the programmers for this update
