Importing problem

I tried importing .dxf format in AMAPI.
The file contains few curves in 3D space. It was modeled in Rhino.
YOu can see in the pic. how the files looks like and how it looks after its imported in AMAPI.
The curves just get thrown around, wich I dont understand why?!
I also tried to imoport this file into AutoCAD, everthing went o.k.
So seems that only AMAPI has a problem.
Anyone else experienced this?

Is it inside a block/group/etc? If so, export the block/group/etc before exporting as dxf. It could help...

I don't know in Rhino, but in Autocad (from where dxf originates) manages object grouping in blocks. Blocks can have different entities from different layers, even other blocks.
This can spell trouble when opening the dxf file in some applications. The solution is usually exploding the block so no bizarre mumbo jumbo in interpreting entities happens.

I just re-read my earlier post again, should have said "explode the block/group/part", not export...

Why not choising an export in OpenNURBS or IGES?

Because I want to have curves ready for poly modeling...all curves in Rhino where 1st degree...
They imported nicely in Autocad, no problems.
Whats wrong with AMAPI?

let me see if i understand this correctly Butch, you created the curves in Rhino3d, a Nurbs modeling program.
you however want to make a poly mesh not a Nurbs one.
so you export the curves and import into Amapi, you dont say which version btw its either 7 designer or 7 pro.
you only want to use dxf for import /export
ermm why not just create the curves in Amapi in the first place??

just curious

I have better curve control, and its a lot faster in Rhino...you have usual curve operation like, trim, blend, adjust end bludge, join, split...
Yes I want to import them now as .dxf in Amapi, wich doesnt seem to work right.

they are the current owners of Amapi.

Butch: excepting this bug, why not using the 3dm file format directly with Amapi? DXF is the worst choice (except in Amapi 8, which has be reworked from scratch)

If I use .3dm the 1st degrere curve, even if it was joined in Rhino, it will be exploded in Amapi (NURBS mode), if I group them I will get monsetr whne trying to extrude it.
In poly mode same thing only the curves gets more control point:-(
Dammit, when will 8 come out?!!!!
I hope you made a lot new stuff on curve creations
