Another UV unwrap issue

Hi, ancient noob here again, with another question which someone more experienced than me may answer. I have been plugging away unwrapping the UV map on my first model.

I have managed to do all until I hit the engines, which I thought would give me a problem and has. Can anyone suggest/tell me, if I'm ever going to unwrap these or, do I have to break them down bit by bit, to get any where?

I've tried to cover most angles but it isn't too clear.

So any advice would be most welcome. Perhaps I do have to cut it up. Incidentally, can I use one map, duped for the other two engines as they are clones?

You need to avoid some of this strange geometry. The twisted parts that go back into themselves just won't be useful for anything. Try to keep your surfaces intact, with a definite inside and outside and have a more regular flow to the polys. I would postpone UV mapping and study some professional models and see how they are constructed. Once you get a feel for that, then would be the time to learn UV mapping.

Cheers Patrick, I suspected as much. Ah well, at least I've managed to unwrap the rest so I have learnt much and I have found that you can never progress if you ignore your errors.

Being a bit pig headed, I thought I would give the engine one last try..... So can I ask my second question again? Can I duplicate this map for the other two engines? or, do I have to unwrap each ?

If they're unattached and identical, then just model one and texture it. Then duplicate and position the others in your rendering software.

UVs are a real worry to this ancient one also!

The models actually in the Hexagen model files might be a good start to look at?
