| Always learning new stuff ![]() | Amapi 8 "official" thread
Hi, To avoid spreading too much information everywhere, I'll post all the information related to Amapi 8 here now. As I told in another thread, I won't be able to answer to all the questions, then, I'm sorry if you don't have the answer to your question! You can start by reading this thread: Amapi 8, where I started to answer some questions, and post the first elements. I post them again here, to be sure to have everything in this thread. You can also check www.Amapi.net, which is our development Blog, but most of the news their will be posted here first (Lucky you are!)

| Always learning new stuff ![]() | Manipulators and basic tools
As you know, we worked on another software before (you see what I mean), which is based on the Amapi technology. As you can imagine, we developed for both software and Amapi now include 3D manipulators. As you can see, some of these elements are not so unknown, and Amapi doesn't work any more only in the closest camera plan. But old Amapi users won't be afraid, Amapi still have it's "old" (and updated) default rotation and scale tool. Only the Move tool has been removed, because it doesn't add anything to the default 3D manipulators, except some confusion. |

| Always learning new stuff ![]() | Variable chamfer
ione of the first request from designers: a "real" variable chamfer. In Amapi 7.5, you have variable chamfer, but only related to corner, BREP edges and edge only. it was impossible to add a different radius in a middle of an edge. As you can see, it's now available! We also change the workflow of the chamfer tool, which is now more "visual" (screenshots and movies later). ![]() |

| Always learning new stuff ![]() | Align guides Another request for Amapi: the ability to have align guides. Amapi now include several types of guides: permanents, ephemeral (not sur of the english!) and characteristics. On the screen capture below, you can see that a characteristic guides is available on the middle of the cylinder, which can be a big help for the line creations, objects align, etc. As you can imagine, you can snap on the intersection of these guides, and more! ![]() |

| Always learning new stuff ![]() | Tools panels This is an example of the polygonal tools panels. We did a lot of work (and continue on this part), about the UI of Amapi. By default, the tool organisation won't be like this screencapture, but you will be able to dock/undock the panels, collapse them or not (like the line panel below), etc. Please, keep in mind that these tools icons may change until the final release! ![]() |

| Always learning new stuff ![]() | Copy on support?
Something on which we worked hard, is the copy on support. I will post later some screenshots and videos about it. This is just a random result I had on a QA test.. hey, you can do Fur in Amapi! (well, don't do that at home, this action was made by well trained users )More serious sample later (I hope tonight) ![]() Just a quick note: you can see the navigation icons are now directly in the 3D viewport (on the top of the screen capture) |

It’s time to post the first video! You will see in this short movie, the long time requested Copy on Support tool with the support of the Dynamic Geometry! This demonstration is based on a polygonal curve, and a new option has been added, to let the user choose how many copies are needed, and not only a copy per point on the curve, like before. Later some other videos about the Copy on Support, on curves, polymesh or NURBS surfaces. |

This is all looking really good! I have had 3 Architects and 1 engineer call me this week wanting 3D renderings and I have turned them down, because I simply don't have the time to model hotels or machinery in Hex. I think I should be adding Amapi to my tool set I know you can't say anything about a release date, but would you expect the Mac & PC version to be released at the same time? |

These little looks at Amapi Pro 8 are really cool Thomas. Really seems you are working some cool things in and am really excited about what I have heard and seen so far. So much so.....just upgraded to 7.52! (hopefully eventually to 8 if upgrade price is within reach) Main reasons I jumped on board ...I think you guys are taking 8 ( and beyond) to be a very complete modeler , have confidence in the team to get things done right and having some active connection to the developer team as you help provide is priceless. Keep up the great work.Keep showing us what you guys are trying to get done. (and do not worry...most folks here seem mature and wise enough to know that often times things change...cannot be implemented ...do not work well enough to be included in the final version. So we understand......but understand this even so ...the communication and interaction is oh so important to capture interest (sales). And for my money ...I like the tools to be rock steady more so then rushed into an application ...so for me --Do not rush ...make it tight...make it right.....I have so much to learn and practice with 7.52 anyhows.... ![]() ![]() |

| The video shows that the copy on support tool is very similar to that of Hexagon. With the previous Hex developers working on Amapi, is Amapi heading in the same direction that Hexagon was going? I love the ease of use with Hexagon and would seriously consider switching to Amapi (for continued development) if it is going that way. Thanks! poe |

Which means that the new added Copy on Support option is now independent of the number of points on the curve (support). In other words, you can now specify the number of copies instead or regardless of the number of points or verts on the curve. This is especially powerful when using any non-circular curve where points are generated in random order, like your copies may bunch up in one area and not in another. The new option lets you draw any curve you want and your copies will flow along that curve and will be spaced apart equally. The image below illustrates Amapi 7.5 Copy on Support tool. ![]() Hope you now understand why Thomas will never get interested in using any modeling app such as Modo's. He's still using Hexagon and Amapi. Last edited by Sketchy; 7th April 2007 at 14:38. |
