Hi, I think about to move for modelling to Amapi Pro 8 (it it will work fine on Intel-Mac ).So I have a few questions, perhaps some can give me some info on it: a) As far as I know Amapi is a NURBS and a Polygonmodeler, if so do I have the same features for polygon-modeling in Amapi as in Hexagon? b) Will be the workflow for polygon-modelling in Amapi Pro this intuitive like in Hexagon? Thanks a lot in advance for your information. Kind regards wal |

Wal: Hexagon is based on Amapi technologies and both software has been made / are made by the same team, then the workflow isn't the same, but it is close (Amapi have more features, and NURBS workflow have some impacts on the hole workflow, but you won't be lose !) And you will be able to test before you by anyway! |

Hi Thomas, thank you for your reply - really nice to hear! ![]() One more question - if it's able for you to answer it, will the demo coming out before or after siggraph? And ... the siggraph is a little bit far from me , is something planned to give some information what I will miss if Amapi is presented there? Thanks a lot and looking ahead for the new Amapi 8 (Amapi Pro 8?) Kind regards Wolfgang |

Thomas- One reason I don't use Amapi as much as Rhino is because of the Fillet tool. 80% of the time when I try to use it I see the red circle (error). Rhino lets me round any corner. Can you tell me if the fillet tool in v8 has been improved? THanks -Dooki

| Amapi 8 features
I have been following this very interesting thread and I am happy to see all these new improvements to Amapi in version 8. I just wonder...if I remember well when Amapi was in Eovia it was being sold together with a version of Carrara in order to render the models made. Maybe I did not undersand properly, but it seems to me that since e-frontier took over, the renderer has been excluded from the package without a proper reduction in price. If I am wrong, I apologize in advance. What I want to say is that since the software`s main targets are industrial and product designers I think it is important to let them visualize their creation after modeling, possibly within the same software, so to compare variations and consequently making corrections to the model. Can we hope to see in Amapi 8, besides the wonderful modeling tools we have been already showed, some features regarding texturing and/or rendering? What was appealing in the old versions of Amapi were 3 things: - advanced modeling tools; - possibility of rendering and doing some turnaround animations in a complementary included software; - the low price for the above 2 features if compared to other solutions for product design. In my very personal opinion these 3 characteristics should be maintained or there should be some considerations in reducing price. |

Amapi 7.52 under e-frontier has been having Shade bundled with it, so you can render in Shade just fine. I suppose that will still be the case in version 8. As to the prices, well I have no way of knowing, but it should be attractive for people like you to upgrade or take the plunge.

As you can do polygons modeling with Amapi, yes it's fine for car modeling. I assume that you're not talking about professional car design used by car manufacturers....if you have a look on the Amapi gallery you can see (at least) one car http://www.e-frontier.com/article/archive/827/

hi pete... how does it compare with something like rhino... does it have the numerical accuracy as rhino does... ive seen the auto images on here.. amazing stuff.. wish there were some tutes on it.... im not looking to design a car.. more learn to model better... as making something that already exists i feel is harder as we have a preconceived idea of what it should look like. making something that from imagination, our memory has nothing so solid to go on so i feel would be easier to fool the eye.. |

tony > i cannot talk about any Rhino comparison as i don't know Rhino, but some other folks here sure will do ![]() For Amapi8 features i'st a beta version and i don't know what's cooking, but sure it will better than Amapi 7.5 still than some screenshots from amapi.net could give you some insights ... http://www.amapi.net/
