Question for Thomas, does Amapi 8 render as carrara or after you have the project created you need to export to another renderer? What I am asking is if Amapi is just a modeller or a whole package, modelling, rendering, animation?

Any plans to make it a whole package or what software that is a whole package you may suggest? I am going back to school and I can get a discount on some of the software but I am trying to get my hands in one that does all the job and don't have a very steep learning curve.

Blender does a lot, but learning it can be a doozy, but it is free (good price) not sure if it does animation, but I think not. As far as I know, other than Carrara you would be getting into some really high-priced software to bundle all of that together - plus some steep learning curves. I think many 3d software packages are now going specialized - modeler or rendering... quite a few have plug-ins from 3rd party vendors to do specialized tasks. Carrara is a pretty good workhorse - I've used it for a long time. Have done a little animation with it, but mostly illustration projects. | |

Blender does animation...and pretty much everything else and a bit more. Here's a 'quick' breakdown: http://www.blender.org/features-gallery/features/ It suffers from one PRIMARY failing; non-standard user interface. I know some people who swear by it, most people who fight with it, and a few people who lothe it. I'm one of those people in the middle.

Do you know if there will be any pre-order option at a preferred price ?

How about the featrure to import an amapi file directly into Carrara or will it be Shade? The advantage I find out is, that NURBS model imports crack free and with creased edges... or are my skills not sufficient yet? The tutorial about importing to Shade gives not the same result than the Carrara feature, or am I missing something?

I tried OBJ format and tested the tutorial Thomas did for Amapi file import into Shade. Correct me if I am wrong but the advantage with import into Carrara today is that you get creased edges. I do a lot of mechanical models and sometimes use VectorStyle... At the same time I haven't used Amapi a lot yet and maybe have to find all the features |

I need to duplicate objects (not clone) That's to say, a copy with the same object name and material, but not a clone because I need to scale only the copied not the original one. It is hard to me rename and reaply material to all the copied objects. In Amapi 6 it was possible so, please, what solution can you tell me about?

Scaling a cloned object won't scale the original at all. (then, if it was possible for the scaling, it would be possible for the rotate and move... then, how to move your clone which is created in the original shape? ;)) For your copied object, I don't really understand what you mean... |

Amapi doesn't ear mark or annotate duplicates as clone but I think Hexagon does. When you pull a duplicate in either program it's not as if modifying the first objectt will be reflected in the second. At least this is what I understand!
