Does Amapi uses the ACIS engine from Spatial?

No internal 5 bouton mouse. In fact, no custom mouse support (like Silo). But if your mouse driver is good enough, you can add yourself some itneresting shortcuts.

artyr: no, no ACIS engine (or we have to rise a lot the price of Amapi.. this lib is pretty exepensive..)

If Hexagon was Thomas' software, whose software is Amapi?

Sketchy... mmh, more complicated answer. A lot of people are behind from its beginning, 15 years ago
But two important people are Laurent Billy and Pierre Bretagnolle (from N sided - Quidam)

Grids

It's time for a new feature

One of the other big request of Amapi is a better support for curves/lines creations. A lot of users are using Illustrator for importing their drawing, but doing this way is not very good, because you have to use two software, the Illustrator file format can generate several points on the same points (not very good for extrusion, punch and other NURBS tools, etc.)

Then, it's time for Amapi to have better drawing tools, and the grids are the basis.
We rework all the grid system, with, as you can see in the animated gif below, a progressive grid, which change with the zoom of the mouse. As you can imagine, you can snap on it

I will post later some drawing process.

As I said on the french part of the forum, it's not an "impressive" feature, but it's a very important feature which missed a lot to Amapi before!

Hi Thomas. It may not be an impressive feature but it's one of my favorite! Thanks for the info!

How about internal rendering engine ?) ... maybe we'll see real-time ray tracing engine like OpenRTRT in Amapi 8 ... or ability to use external render engine ?
...anyways , thank you Thomas)

yes, but Thomas, the reason for using Illustrator is that you can do a very accurate 2d drawing of components and you can move points in 2d space numerically in relation to each other. Also very quickly. So to do a basic template and export in Illustrator3 is simply a few minutes work. The one big issue I had with Amapi was that there is no easy way to reference a point - and to move it in space relative to the object/world centre, so it's much easier to draw all your 2d's in Illustrator and then combine in Amapi. Are you telling me I've been doing it wrong all this while?

Alx: you know OpenRTRT? Damn! I don't think a lot of people are aware of this engine!

Jones: I never said that you've been doing in the wrong way. I wanted to say in fact, that the best way is to do everything in Amapi and avoiding importing your 2D drawings, because Amapi lacks these features...
If you have a couple of minutes, can you post in the feature request thread, the list of features that missed in Amapi 7.5 for 2D drawing, that you use a lot in Illustrator ?

Thomas , your words about possible support of maxwell renderer and m. Laurent Billy closeness to OpenRTRT makes our dreams about Amapi future sweeter
...the Shade render capabilitys are pretty nearly , but that workflow sometimes seems too comlicated for artist ...and not so fast just hoping e-frontier will allow Amapi to be more flexible ... and.. and .. thank you Thomas)

Hey Thomas do you know if Amapi 7 (Designer) has any upgrade or it was tossed for only Amapi Pro?

mayito7777: I think you will be able to do an upgrade, but i'm not sure (as I said before, I'm not really aware of the marketing around Amapi 8)

Upgrade

If I am not mistaken the upgrade from Amapi 7 designer to APro8 was offered back in November when the APro8 special order offer was open. I would certainly hope so because I missed that offer but have assumed I would still be able to upgrade from Designer!

It was an upgrade to Amapi pro 7.52, not Apro 8.
