Extract Along Edge Question

Hi everybody,

I just bought Hexagon on Saturday and have been trying some of the tutorials to get familiar with the program.

I have run into a problem that after two nights of trying can't solve. I have been following the Oil Drum modeling tutorial by Marc Gebhart. I did it once and deceided to try it another time and when I try to make the closed top of the Oil Drum using the Extrude along edge tool, I can't make the edge extrude in toward the center by dragging the little arrow. The entire top edge of the cylinder are blue, I choose the Extrude along edge tool, the blue edges turn red, when I try to drag the little arrow toward the center either I loose the selection or I get another set of edges below the arrow as if I dragged down instead of across toward the center of the cylinder.

I didn't have this problem the first time going through the tutorial.

I have tried the operation from numerous angles, from higher angles to elminate the possibility of accidentally dragging downward. I've rotated the camera as well. No luck.

Have I overlooked something?

Thanks,
Rick

Hi Rick. Unsmooth the model, and look at how much distance there is between that troublesome edge loop and the one next to it. If they're very close, the loop may have nowhere to slide...

I am very familiar with this tutorial and have done it 4 times. I know EXACTLY what you are talking about and I know why you are having problems....do NOT try and drag the little triangles. They show direction only. Click inside your red line and drag the size you want. I did this same exact thing.
