Extrusion Tool - Polyloop

OK yesterday, my fast extrusion tool changed.
before, when I hit ALT(mac) I was able to extrude using the univeral manipulator, but now I get only a simple constrained scale and straight extrusion. the straight extrusion will ONLY extrude with selection corridinates, not with world corridinates. I have reset everything a few times, but still get the same tool. I guess I have just clicked something that is causing this

Not sure what's causing this, if you use ctrl (windows) and fast extrude the face it behaves normally, but something got changed or something, just use the axial extrusion like so:
