My request:

Make it compatible with Carrrara. We all have to render our models, and I've just spent way too long trying to export to Carrara format from Amapi, as neither program will recognise the other. And the fact that it crashes EVERY SINGLE TIME I export. Oh, and the thickness tool needs a makeover, as I never really find any use for it at all, due to the lovely spikes it makes out of nothing...

jones2000u: ok, I'll check that with the team. We will try to do our best to improve the drawing tools, but perhaps some of these requests won't be for Amapi 8.0, but for 8.x.

achrystie: I'm sorry, but no marketing requests here, I'm not in that team. but i'll drop your message to them.

Rowan: for the 7.5, the best way is to import the Amapi model.
For Amapi 8, we will use only the OBJ export, which is, most of the time, the best way.
For the thickness, you mean in polygonal mode? Most of the problems happens because of a topology problem. Can you create a new thread about this problem with a screen capture and a file in attachement, to let me check your mesh -before- the thickness?

That's good enough for me Thomas

But before, you said that Illustrator places (sometimes) multiple points on the same place. Do you mean that this is a (A) result of how Illustrator creates shapes (by program) or (B) as a result of how the operator draws a shape? Because if it is (B), I can cure my own mistakes!

good "points" Jones200u
many apps seem to break bezier curves into weird segments, or add points. I would think that a bezier curve would be handled the same in any app. its just a mathmatical curve defined by the points and handles

an accurate Illustratator import would be very nice.

I need to duplicate objects (not clone) That's to say, a copy with the same object name and material, but not a clone because I need to scale only the copied not the original one. It is hard to me rename and reaply material to all the copied objects. In Amapi 6 it was possible so, please, what solution can you tell me about?

Thomas,
You said above that in 8 you will only use obj Export? Or was that answering a specific question about some kind exporting. Hope so . We always like a nice robust combo of file ins and outs. In fact I would enjoying seeing some of the things from shade like Animation Master export..

I just had a thought, Thomas.

You said in another thread that the problem with Illustrator3 import is that sometimes there are co-existent points, which does not work with punch etc.

How about an import dialog that gives the option to weld all points occupying the same position?

I suppose it's too late in the development process for this...

= = = = =

I just upgraded from Designer to Pro 7.5, because of the
good price offered by e-frontier. I'm definitely unhappy
with Pro 7.5, because it does not handle small meshes.

This is important in working with Poser, because you
can't always scale up and down, and the scaling process
is inconvenient. When making a morph target OBJ,
the Poser-sized item must be used as is. Scaling is not even
an option.

Designer had no trouble with this, but Pro is crashing frequently
on the same items and actions that Designer handles nicely.

I hope you'll fix this in Pro 8.

Hi

RTFM if I may ..May I ?
There is a scale option both for import and for export.
You just have to check the "file dialog options" in the Pref/Panels (if it's not the case as it should by default).

Import in meters or what ever you want, export with the same parameters
