Lathe tool petition

Although I have read the manual and played with the sweep tool to emulate other 3D apps' lathe tools (and I understand how more flexible a tool it is), I still think having a traditional lathe tool in Amapi would be very advantageous: for modeling surface of revolution-type objects it simplifies things a lot not having to carefully adjust the profile to the section (actually, it would be interesting to have a lathe tool that actually derives an implicit profile). Defining an axis of revolution is far easier and quicker an operation. Also, it would help us create less that 360º-lathed objects more easily.

I agree. That would be a very useful addiction to the Amapi toolset.

Yes, I would also like a lathe tool.

I have been wanting a dedicated lathe tool for quite awhile. Sweeping and double sweeping everything is extra work.

You can make a control line for the profile and do the same thing as a lathe tool, lathe tool would be pretty much redundant.

Certainly, but that is rather cumbersome in comparison: while a lathe tool just needs one to draw an axis, the sweep one requires extra precision when defining the control line.

I know there is this philosophy of tool consolidation and so, but sometimes one wishes apps would make tools and things more inmediate and simple, even if it risks a bit of extra clutter. A separate Lathe Tool provides a better solution for very common modeling cases.

I rember way back when using 3ds r4 and then max 1.0, the lathe tool created long faces on end caps that would render as a hole. One of the reasons why I used to do my modeling in Amapi then port out 3ds files. The triangulation on lofted or extruded objects are much cleaner than on a lathe tool. Maybe thats old school but for the 1 extra click, it never really bothered me. I think there are other bugs in apps like Hexagon where you continually need to draw down a menu for a particular tool option is far more annoying.

Is there going to be any further updates to 7 pro? I would like to see the uv and paint tools in that, or atleast have the ability to view textures on obects with even the basic projections.

(One would wish for some sort of official statement regarding Amapi 8: that the "Amapi Dev' Team" blog is there with its last entry before the disbanding of the team, frozen in time, is disconcerting)

Hi Pixelplucker, how do you do that?

What I want to do is to take a semicircle and rotate it through 90 degrees to get a perfect quarter sphere with the two flat faces at 90 degrees to each other.

When I try to do this with the sweep tool, I get an object like this where the faces are not at right angles and the shape is not regular. I thought maybe you had a solution
