| bump & displacement?
trying to export bump or displacement in hex with no luck. I do a sphere do the UV, then paint the displacement, open the export bump tool set geometry to 0 smooth to 2 displ 4. the coeficient shows a very strange number 1011151..... that I try to change for 0 but it comes back again. validate out comes a window to save it, I have tryed with all the formats but it doesnt save anything. Anyone has an awnser for this?

Are you painting at zero smoothing? Bump/displace will have little effect on an unsmoothed object because the poly's are too big to influence much. I usually set it to 2-3 and collapse the dg and paint/displace and export as .car. Then in Carrara, I open it, switch the "default" shader to the exported paint shader (it comes in the .car file and is exported from Hex) Here is just a quick few ugly shots, no UV unwrap or anything, I just loaded a blank 1024 texture and 1024 bump in the materials panel, painted and displaced and export from Hex/import to Carrara. Then just use the drop down tab to select "material 23" or whatever you exported to your displaced object. UV unwrapping tuts are available as well here and at Daz Hex forum. I'm guessing it's zero smoothing or not collapsing the DG, which is what's causing you trouble though? |

Found the problem, smoothing was of four did not collapse the geometry and paint the bump, before saving the bump image be shure to have selected the object not the dynamic geometry as I had. Save the object with 0 smoothing to carrara, when open in carrara smooth the object to the desired smoothing level you had already specified in the exporting preferences of the bump file. And load the bump image, There you are. It was very simple, or not? (3 weeks to realize what was wrong).
