| total noob ask some basic and easy inputs
Hi, I got Hexagon 2.1 got a pair of question about modelling . 1) how to use the mirror functions? I would to select and estrude a face on the side of the creature that I try to modelling and want that another face went extrude in the other side. 2) How to multitle select? I would to select more that a face at the same time , also not connected, for example the head and the point of the tail.. 3) there is some brush sculpting capability in H2 but I dunno how use them. I tried to paint and sculp a mesch but , while the red circle can move up and down across the model, it do nothing. Perhaps the poly have a too low number of face? |

1) The first thing is to activate symetry in the right panel and define the axe. It's best to do at the beginning of the modelling. Then you can extrude with symetry. 2) Use Shift and select the faces is the basic way. 3) You have to unwrap your object first. I think you can find more explanations in the documentation.

| Hello total noob, 1: Create part of the mesh that will be on one side (at least a face). When I model a person I will model the torso and head before I "mirror" the model. If you choose to do this, you will need to make sure that the mesh has vertices adjoined by edges all through the middle of the model. For example, make sure the model is positioned at 0 for all axes (enter 0 in the x, y, and z Position text boxes in the Properties panel). Then, make sure all vertices/edges in the middle of the model have a y position of 0. Once you have done this, select all vertices on ONLY ONE SIDE of the mesh and DO NOT INCLUDE the middle vertices that I detailed above in the selection. Delete all of these vertices and make sure that side of the mesh has all been deleted. Now in object select mode, select your object and then click the Symmetry tool beneath the Vertex modeling tab. In the Properties panel make sure that Clone is selected and then check the box corresponding to the axis along which you wish to create the symmetry. For example, if you are looking at the object mesh from the Front viewport and you have deleted the right side of the mesh and wish to duplicate the left side, then you should check the box next to "X+". Finally, when you are finished modeling you will need to "collapse" your mesh so that you can export it and use it in other programs. This will combine your original mesh with the cloned mesh. You can do this by selecting both objects (the original mesh and the cloned mesh) and clicking the Weld tool under the Vertex modeling tab. |

3. I have never been able to "paint" onto the mesh because my graphics chip/driver do not support OpenGL 2. However, from what I understand you must:
Good luck. |

the modeling brushes you are looking for are the displacement brushes, they are found in the uv and paint tab at the top of the screen. heres a quick example of displacement scuplting using the base figure mesh from the freestuff section here. this was just a quick 5 minute mess about on my part not a final model stu

the symmetry planes can be accessed by either the right hand panel or by right clicking. the mirror tool is in the vertex modeling tab. holding shift while in selection mode will multi select faces, points or edges. stu
