Turning open GL off

Hi, i have put a screen capture of my graphic cards settings, I like to turn off
the open Gl, but have no clue how to do it. If you can help it would be great.

The problem is I get flickers when i rotate around my objects in Hex.

Thank you for helping.

You are very funny wabbit

You cannot turn openGL ON or OFF, it is nor a process running on your machine, it is rather huge set of hardware 2D rendering procedures called by the software itself.

If Hexagon has no other way to output to it's window then calling openGL to do it, then you are stuck with it.

Carrara, for example, has other way of doing this (software renderer) hence you can choose between those two...

Hex should have been made to only work with Directx, if that was done, there would not be so many incompatibility.

The only way I got out of it, is to turn your system from 32 bit to 16bit
and restart your hex. Let me know if that works for you?

Hiya.

The HUGE bonus to using OpenGL is portability. That's why Hex is on Windows & on Mac...and why it could, theoretically, be ported to Linux (crosses fingers in a vain hope... ). DirectX is good...but, from what I hear from my programmer friends, is that the 'interface' of working with DirectX is a pain in the ass.

Anyway...I'd *MUCH* rather it stay OpenGL than get screwed up by DirectX. ...and don't even get me started on DX10 for Vista... (http://www.cs.auckland.ac.nz/~pgut00...ista_cost.txt)...

Have you tried the settings in edit/preference editor/3d display/advanced ?
Try the openGL optimization settings, refesh methods and the Local Redraw

Yes, time for a new computer I guess or graphic card. Hate to do this when every other program I use is fine. I had a demo of MODO and ran perfectly with open GL.

Little Mad now.

I bought a cheap gfx card ATI 9550 one for £40

but trying Hex on my laptop was a disaster because its only OpenGL 1.3
and no newer drivers!

But yeah, I feel your pain - Amapi, Carrara run - even though they need a better computer really then my poor ickle notebook oh and even Moi3d beta runs beautifully on it

So why is Hex such a disaster I dunno but I gave up
I just setup a machine modest one at that with an old SocketA motherboard

and it runs all my apps fine and Hex runs better with it
But HEX needs openGL 1.4 or greater I think and you cant turn it off
it wont work then i reckon

to sumise...
check the info tab on that screen you showed to see what version your running of openGL
then check for a newer driver for you gfx card - support may have been added.

if all fails get a new gfx card that supports at least openGL1.4

Thank you for your suggestions, I think i would just get a new card, not now but when cash flows in.

Thank you.

According to your DAZ profile you are an Art Director, you should have plenty of cash to buy one lil' graphics card, don't you think

Sure, But I was thinking to upgrade the whole system with a highend graphic card. I really don't want to get a cheap card just to solve this one problem when all my other programs run just fine. Unless you like to send me a gift.

;)

Wabbits love gifts you know.

Some cards have openGL 2.0
Would that be compatible?

Anyone here has that?
