| UV Mapping Problems
I am finally learning about my shiny new Hex 2 software and I am having trouble with UV Mapping. What I am working on is a very simple mesh that I am using primarily to learn about mapping within the application. The mesh consists of two nearly flattened cubes joined at one end and arranged perpendicular to one another. The final outcome will hopefully be something like a book. ^_^ In applications I have used in the past I have been able to apply planar mapping to separate faces and then redistribute (translate) the UVs within UV space to make it relatively easy to apply a texture within Photoshop. I am assuming that I can also do this within Hex 2, but so far it has been little more than an exercise in frustration. After selecting a face I navigate to the UV & Paint tab and select "Planar Projection". It is to this point that everything goes smoothly. ![]() Anyway, when I change one of the viewports to UV View and start trying to move things around nothing seems to function as it should. I click dissassociate in the UV View and then make sure that I have the Translate tool selected. Sometimes I am able to move the face. Sometimes I am not able to move the face. I always seem to be able to resize the face within the UV View successfully, but this doesn't help much if I cannot then translate it to another area in UV space. Also, I do not see any manipulators when I am working within the UV View. Perhaps I am not supposed to - this is unclear to me. Finally, I have looked at the Help documentation and it doesn't give information on how to move UVs other than to say that using the manipulators in the UV Editor is similar to using them in the perspective viewports. I also looked at the tutorials that accompany the software, but there is nothing that talks about mapping or texturing. I noticed a couple of tutorials on this site that deal with unfolding, but that isn't exactly what I am wanting to do. Can anyone help me out or perhaps point me to somewhere that might help? Thanks, Darren |
