I was just checking out your stuff at CG talk!

it looks like you mostly use Shade for rendering... have you used Vue much for ArchiVis stuff? I'm considering getting it.

I really like the Flag on your portfolio...and the the night renders of the training facility

ViaCAD (In the NERBS thinking)
Back in the 1940s I used to do a lot technical drawing (engineering stuff), I , recently, fell in love with the MoI working method, acknowledging it is designed to operate within limits,--- at the current price for Amapi7.52, I think it was just about the most universal app one could have,---- I have been enjoying the nurbs building approach which can be developed further in Carrara6, Hexagon, or, now, 3D Brush.

I tried the Demo version of ViaCad. I HAD to buy the REAL PAID FOR version! (There IS a difference)

LOVE to hear comments from anyone using ViaCad
Even e-mail me

Yes, I use Shade a lot for rendering. However, as it does not support displacement maps on polygon meshes, I use Lightwave for that (and thingies like camera baking, etc). If I want to have a quiet weekend and not experiment which shadow setting, caustics, reflections, and so on, I render with Maxwell, and let the computer alone for the weekend.

As to Vue.
Yes I have used it for situations where trees and folliage are the main or a very important part of the scene. Vue is wonderful for landscape architecture, parks, gardens, etc. There is a Learning Edition of Vue, I think, you should download it and give it a try.

Thank you! I like the flag image too. It turned out better than I thought it would. As to the training facility, I had to do those images in two days from a drawing plan that could have been a napkin sketch. I was surprised at how well it looked in the end. As a matter of fact, one of the reasons I did the night renders was so it was not so apparent that there were almost no texturing, the glass buildings are completely empty, and as when you lower reflection bounces and there are partial reflections (or however you call it) than need more rays, it gets rendered to black, you wouldn't see that in the renders. The other reason is that the training facilities are for the Federal Electricity Commision of Mexico, so lighting is part of their pride (or so my client explained to me).

Times have indeed changed since the Daz buy out. Polyloop was once the best website for Eovia user but that is not the case anymore.

Thomas, I know you have woked very hard on this website and we all thank you. My only issue is that I would prefer that Polyloop only have 3 sections. A 2-D section (Photshop, Indesign, Coreel Draw etc) a 3-D section (Carrara, Maya, Lightwave etc) and a miscellaneous section(computer Hardware, OS webdesign etc). I think it would make the forums much more active. As a Carrara and Hexagon user I would not mind reading about Modo or even Maya. Infact it would be usefull to read about other software solutions. I just don't think there is enough users to warrant so many sections at Polyloop.com. I am not trying to nit pick. I just think 3 sections would be better. A gallery of completed works and wips would be OK.

I think that it is the direction where Thomas is heading.
It's just that it takes a lot of time to collaps all those forums into one, as the new behavior is to include the name of the app in the title of a new thread...
I could be wrong or i could have misunderstood, but i think it will be the new PolyLoop in the future.

Cheers,
Laurent aka Tartiflette

I don't think that participation is lost, we are getting closer to Christmas, many people take off, plus by reorgamizing the forum most posts now are going into the proper category instead of opening new and new topics that gave the idea of more participation.

The # of new English threads is definitely lower than normal. Even the usual crew of moderators have not been commenting on anything very often. And i really miss Stu's gentle hand-holding (or perhaps that's known as hand-slapping?). He's always good for a laugh or two ! Anyway I'm glad that all the nonsense topics have stopped. Now we only have legitimate 2D/3D questions and topics to discuss...

I spend more of my time at the mudbox forum, z brush central and CGtalk maya section as they directly relate to what I am learning and interested in at the moment. But still visit most days to see what my polyloop friends are up to. Also havent posted work much lately as like Couerl also doing a bit of real sculpting ( but in clay)

I know that Subdivisionmodeling.com has a section for "real" sculpture, even though it is not very active. I'd be interested still in seeing some of your work and have thought about posting some of mine, but i'm not sure if it is appropriate or not..

Sounds good. I hope we will get more True Space, Lightwave and maybe even a few Hash Animation Master users. It will be fun to see what the competition has to offer with out having to read 5 or 6 different forums.

"I'm sorry if allthese changes are not ok for everybody. Honneslty, I prefer less people, but passionate people than just "clic&drag&render ooh I'm an artist"..."

I thought it was import&pose&render. But the Vicki and Michael followers seem to be everywhere, or it is the abstract texture makers that are taking over the world. For myself, not even Shorty can scare me away from checking in time to time. Just long work hours and many resposibilities at home that do not allow for much else. I have tried to get my head around the Hex theory and interface without success. I finally broke down and purchased the XSI foundation package. I like the interface much better, and it has many wonderful tutorials that I can grasp which some would say are simple tuts. Personally I like the Digital Tutors series for XSI, that is why I have been silent trying to get through some tuts and get back to modeling. Sorry to hear that others are leaving, but they will always be friends.

P.S. Even Shorty

Actually, the change in format caught me off guard.

I sort of understand the changes, but part of my tool set is Hexagon and Carrara. If I have to go through a lot of threads to see work, ideas, changes or whatever on the two - then I rapidly lose interest.

I still visit, but am somewhat confused where to start looking or should I say apathetic if I don't get my personal "eye candy" issues resolved?
