Poser's rigging system is somewhat annoying if you don't line it up right... but you can definitely use your characters in there! DAZ|Studio is better for posing imo but you need poser to rig it. i think its best features are the dynamic hair and cloth; with a little patience, you can make any hairstyle realistically... only problem is, I don't think there's a way to export the hair into any other program (?). If you have clothes you modeled for one character and want to reuse, (assuming you're to lazy to tweak the mesh XP) you can adjust it and easily add realistic folds in Poser.

Vue imports dynamic hair. Shade8.52 also imports the dynamic hair. I don't know if any other program can do that, but those I am 100% sure, as I have in fact inserted Poser figures with dynamic hair and rendered the result.

I use poser (at times) kind of like some artists used to use those little wood manikens to draw from. Poser is ok to set up scenes, get perspective and different angles and such. Then I draw my own people... kind of like in this illustration that called for quick stylized sketchy art of dad and son discussing a letter. The pen was made in Carrara.

Otherwise Carrara 6 is/was rumoured to be implementing these but who knows now.
I don't agree with it animating faster then C5P. But thats a matter of opinion.

nate: you do a very good sample of a good way to use Poser, that a lot of people may use too to do their drawing!

I read the history of Poser by it's original creator Larry Weinberg before I got Poser-5 and its original intent was just that, an aide to draw humans in whatever pose for the artist. It was never intended to play dress up with dolls or be a cartoon Playboy magazine.

http://www.larryweinberg.com/gallery2/v/PoserHistory/

I do agree with Larry in this statement though: But even the goofiest Poser images exemplify the drive and creative spark that so many people have and need to express.

And Poser does help many people who might otherwise have no outlet for their vision of what "art" is.

I still think if you've seen one, you've seen them all, but every now and then one will still catch your eye like this use or example.
Neat work Nate.

I know I got to this late but hey, sue me.

You can create your own characters in an application like Shade, Silo, Wings, Max, XSI or any of the other modelling tools and then take them into Poser for character setup. The benefit of doing so is that you can then sell your work if you choose too or if you're unable to master your other program's animation systems, Poser provides an alternative. Also, as Nate has shown us, it can be used to aide an artist in nailing a 2D illustration quickly, if they're having a hard time with drawing the human figure. As mentioned earlier, it can also be used for pre-visualization techniques like checking for scale. Poser has loads of uses and shouldn't be dismissed off hand.

Ok, i'm a rookie.
i've been sweating ink trying to figure how to use a terragen generated hdr lightprobes with the difuse IBL lights included with poser...
Here is how i've managed so far:
I make a background with a terragen image the usual way, then the lightprobe with the SOPack plugin... from there, to HDRShop for panoramic transformation and translation from cubic enviroment hdr to mirrored ball jpg...
the problem is light intensity... do you have to adjust it manually?
is there a easier way to do this?
sorry, i wish my english was better, thanks in advance for any help
