Imho and even if I do not use it anymore (or since months) Yes it is . Even if you do not use the daz or poser content, c6 got enough features (especially for the shaders ) to be interresting . I think it's a good choice. BUT, BEWARE if you were used to amapi, the bridge is not here anymore. |

As Piem, i would say it's a good buy. The new possibilities cover a lot of things of the "core" of the application and are really worth the upgrade. That is if Carrara was enough for your need. ![]() If you need what can only be done in Maya or XSI well... Buy XSI or Maya as Carrara 6 won't be the right app ! ![]() Sorry, just joking. ![]() All in all, go for it, the C6 upgrade was a lot more than just DAZ content oriented. ![]() Cheers, Laurent aka Tartiflette |

Yeah the companion upgrade works with almost any 3D app (except Blender me think ) and also Photoshop and graphic/video apps like this.In other word there is 99% chances you qualify for a companion upgrade which makes the LightWave deal a steal for now ! ![]() But LightWave is a very different beast compared to Carrara, it's a lot more powerful bua also a lot more difficult to master, especially if you're coming from Carrara... ![]() Cheers, Laurent aka Tartiflette |

| Pixar want to hire me! ![]() | Thanks for all those comments! I think this'll help a lot to find a decision. I still wonder whether I should choose the pro or non pro version. I use Hexagon2 for all my modelling, so I guess I won't need all the modelling stuff in Carrara6 pro. Would I? |

Correct, that is how I purchased mine...It's not listed, but when I called them on the phone it was a done deal in 10 minutes, two days later there it was, right on my doorstep. Not as easy to use as Carrara, but rendering is definitely light years ahead (at lest for interiors which is gonna be my main theme for the next few years). Hair plug-in might be in beta (so was the Carrara's one as well) but I have feeling when is done, it's gonna be a big selling point since it can be ray-traced as well. I'm not sure that hair produced in Carrara can be seen in mirrors (never tried it) but one in LW is (2 or more sided strands), and that is a big plus in my book

![]() In fact i'd say i'm mostly impressed by Carrara's hair/fur which i find to be one the most powerful yet simple to use solution i've tested. ![]() And it's really good too ! ![]() I really hope LightWave can finally at least match that quality and we'll be set. ![]() Cheers, Laurent aka Tartiflette | |

Issue 100 of 3d World UK has full version of Carrara 5.1pro, just order a back issue and there you go. I have both Carrara 6.1pro and Lightwave 9.3 and Lightwave seems more powerfull but Carrara is easier to use if you don't know much about 3D. I am a 3D newbie and found Kai's interface of Carrara to be very user friendly. Another consideration is DAZ. I hate to say this but they have the money to upgrade the hell out of carrara. They also have the market position to keep carrara from being another dead end piece of software. An illustration of this is their giving away of studio software for free and their promotions for upgrades of their 3d software products seem to be pretty regular. I hope this helps.
