[Others]Hayabusa - Rhino 4 real time rendering

Holy crap! I just learned that there will soon be a real-time rendering engine that runs natively inside of Rhino 4. This is something similar to Hypershot. Bob McNeel made a comment about 6-10 new renderers being developed for Rhino. And i suppose this is one of them...

Shorty I saw them playing with real time renderers and shadows and reflections and stuff at Siggraph, they were excited about it and looked like they were having all sorts of fun. I was astonished frankly at the modest nature of their booth, it was a pretty small one and I figured they'd be a big shot there, but they were just a few real down to earth nerds instead.

I think what you saw was the in-house builds of the future Rhino display (still waiting to try it Jeff!). It has all types of things working in real time (lights, reflections, shadows, bump mapping, normal mapping, and refractions too!). But this is not the same as Hayabusa, which has not been demo'd anywhere yet. It's first public showing will be next week. Hypershot was a big disappointment to me, so i am hoping Hayabusa will be the real deal... fingers are crossed (making it a bitch to type!)

A discussion on the Rhino forum revealed some more information...
  • The Japan release will be 21 January 2008 bundled with Rhino only.
  • A demo-version will be available for download in January 2008, probably before the japanese release.
  • The English PlugIn will be released end of March/beginning April 2008 as a sole Rhino PlugIn.
  • Regarding the price, it is expected to be far more than the traditional Rhino render plugIns.
  • The raytraced version will probably released in December 2008 with a different pricing.
  • Hayabusa is primarily a decision making/evaluation tool using GPU with advanced shaders. Even without raytraced shadows, one can reach high-quality results by using selected HDRIs. Renderings from our HB case study including a full-modelled car-body to be published very soon.

Hi Io. I see there is an application for the demo. What are the restrictions/expirations on it? Also do you have any confirmed info yet for price and release date?

Thanks!
