3d-brush App

http://www.3d-brush.com/

This "final" version seems to offer a great alternative to other 3d painting apps, a more "comprehensive" workability than in Hexagon, and, maybe, a poor man's version of Z-Brush?

I would welcome any advice.

I think this is probably a good summary from my experience.

It's a good program but at 200 bucks I'm not sure about it now. At that price it sort of makes me wonder whether I should save up for z-brush instead.

I'm sure he's done he's homework, but at milkshape prices this app would rule the world. At this price I'm not so sure.

run away from this software...

If you want a 3d painting application go mainstream like modo or ZBrush

If you want a free 3D painting program, blacksmith3D offers one with the download of their morphing Suite of tools.

If you decide not to buy the Suite, you can use the 3D painter as freeware. The free version has a 1024x1024 limitation, while the licensed version is larger, I think 2048x2048 - not sure.

It can stamp map, paint texture, displacement, bump and has it's own auto UV utility if you brought the model in without a UV map. The brushes can vary in strength, transparency - there a several brushes to choose from. It imports and exports OBJ format.

The full Suite I think it's 3.0 version costs about 200 US on sale now. However, you can download the trial and if you decide not to buy a license, get to keep the free 3D painter.

Might be just the thing if you have some detail work to do. I played around with it a bit and it does what it claims. The interface is different, but can be figured out fairly easily.

I don't know what you have against 3d-brush, but modo is way too much to buy for it's painting tools alone (if money is an issue for you).

There was a time when z-brush was far from mainstream itself.

Thanks. The Blacksmith painting looks interesting. There is a tag "auto UV"?--I wonder if?

Anyway it looks handy.

3dbrush looks good but cannot compare with Mudbox or Zbrush , his natural price range is around 40-70 bucks.

Hi all!

You are right. After reading this thread we have understood that the price for 3d brush is realy high mostly because of it is unknown product. So we decided to decrese the price of commercial version nearly twice for at least two next months. In several days there will be update on our site. Welcome to www.3d-brush.com !

And one more question: is 3d-brush realy much less functional than Mudbox? What should I add to increase functionality? What functions are really necessary?

Displacement and bump in the blacksmith freeware is de activated , I guess .
3 dbrush price is dropped; it may became a "must have" in the niche of ultimate unvrapper, fragmotion , Milkshape

I am using Modo for painting/displacing, and i confirm it's not the tool which makes great art. It's the quality of the artist. And this explains why my "artwork" is so horrible !!!

Seriously i think this program has some killer features which those other programs do not. I wouldn't call this a ZBrush killer, but i would think of it like Silo (but for texturing). For most working studios $210 is very reasonable if it can be a productive tool. And DAMN $70 is a great intro price for any piece of software. I might have to start demo'ing this program myself. It could be nice partner to Modo's painting tools. Especially the text painting features look great...

Are you trying to load an imported file? Maybe the demo only allows those files supplied with the d/load?

The one benefit of 3d-brush - we are young and small company and we write code fastly (there is no complex bureaucracy, you can look at news on our site and calculate monthly portion of new features during last 3-4 months). So 3d-brush will grow in functionality fastly - in case if users will buy it sometimes and we will not die of starvation

Our policy is to make frequent updates. For example in next update (in one or two weeks) we plan to add manual uv-unwrapping tool - very easy and intuitive. All what you should do is to mark edges of clusters (only if need) and faces that are centers of clusters. 3d-brush will unwrap all this and pack on texture as tight as possible.

We also want to add retopologising tool (but not so soon, may be in several months) and possibility to make models from 0.

Frequent updates can not be policy. It means unstability.

I think the best way to compete for you is to make 3d-brush act as a plug-in to reduce all this export-import suffering.

Updates mean unstability? Come on mate!

Maybe I should have stayed with Photoshop 7 instead of updating to the CS3 version?
