I agree

bwtr, did we just start a flame war??

my post was about software companies that "advertise" a Mac version when it is only a workaround that involves installing Windows... which actually works beautifully, but thats not the point.
basically my complaint lies with companies like Pixologic, Dogwaffle, etc.
i love their products, but don't try to push it as a Mac product....we know we can run it in Windows

I have nothing against Windows, and I drive a '97 Thunderbird...that needs new brakes, and tires...and it started making a funny sound the other day

bwtr...

I know you are having a mad love affair with 3D brush.
(I hope you are getting a fat commission for all of your hard work )

It looks pretty cool, however I already bit into ZBrush and still getting tuned up to it in between a lot of distractions. If not I would be thinking on 3D brush.

Nate. I have no doubts that Z-Brush is , technically, the better app.
I think it is woefully organised for the average mind.

3D Brush just seems to fullfill the original potentials of Hexagon in a way that is much more complete and comprehensive.

Anyway, for the price, workability, comprehensive ,ease of use,----etc--whatever!

IS there anything better?

Couldn't answer that one...
ZB not only does sculpting, but you can pose your models (I use it just to pose them... not for animations) and a plethora of other things beyond what I dreamed it was capable of.
It would not be fair to compare the two.
Most likely you are correct, (I haven't explored the capabilities of 3D brush...) but then, I never considered Hex to be more than a handy modeling tool with a workflow that I still think is sweet. I didn't think 3Dbrush ventured into that arena (box modeling, facet modeling, dynamic geometry, etc.), so I wouldn't compare it to Hexagon either. I think they are different tools each with their own values.

Hi everyone!

The version 2.04 is released!

The list of features (in comparison to 2.03):

1) Texture baking tool - possibility to project current mesh on another one with completely different topology and get textures of normals, color and specular.
2) Importing normalmap. It does not displaces a geometry, but creates a new layer with corresponding blending. It allows you to add details on already existing normalmap.
3) Smooth stroke - it allows you to make smooth and accurate strokes.
4) Camera/materials shortcuts
5) Possibility to lock absolute depth independently on radius using lock icon in top panel
6) Possibility to lock screen radius of the pen.
7) Redo is done
8) Layers menu is reorganised, it is much more convenient now
9) Undo works now for merge up/down, merge visible, delete layer
10) Presets window works well with folders, it switches pen/strip/material folder if need.
11) Additional filter for drawing - pen pressure can depend on layer displacement.
12) Several filters - smooth/sharpen layer, adjust hew/saturation/lightness of the layer.
13) New user manual, pdf and chm formats
14) Add entire folder with pens
15) Navigation with pen is improved, you can pan using LMB+RMB

Welcome to download page!

I have released 2.05. It is really big piece of work. So, the list of changes:
General changes:
1) Adaptive geometry: now geometry will be additionaly automatically subdivided during edit process in dependence of details to get well displaced surface. It is very new and algoritmically very complex feature.

2) You can import big meshes now, up to 700 K. Many optimisatons was done to make it possible.
3) You can alter level of initial subdivision during mesh import. Now you can specify mid-poly mesh resolution.
4) new measure tool, you can measure distance in most common units - meters, inches, yards, miles, etc. Also the coordinate of picked point is printed in the right bottom corner.
5) New method of custom material mapping in custom fill pattern - mapping over existing uv-set. It allows to paing clothes in more easy way.
6) Masks are implemented. The mask is modulator for pen depth and transparency. The mask and materials could be moved and rotated independently using new navigation controls.

7) Masks and materials could be rotated discretely on 45 degrees using SHIFT.
8) Many stability improvements.
9) New interface style. Interface looks now more clear and sharp.
10) jpg export is correct now.
Curves changes:
11) Some curve points could be marked as sharp. So you can make square forms in easy way.

12) Whole curve could be moved/scaled/rotated using new navigation controls.
13) Curve can be closed.

13) You can draw arrows in easy way.

14) New curve drawing mode - spacing mode. Points will be set along curve with some spacing and jittering. It allows to make new effects with cirves.

15) Curves will be drawn correctly, even if knot points are far from each other and surface between them is curved much.

Layers changes:
16) Layers masking (linking) is implemented. One layer can mask another layer in non-destructive way.

17) You can freeze the transparent or painted area of the layer. In this way you can use layer's transparency to paint selectively on another layers. It is like CTRL+click on layer in Photoshop. You can use CTRL+click on layer in 3DB now.

Welcome to downloads section

Great work, Andrew!

Do you have plans to give 3D-Brush the ability to edit multiple objects?

Both ZBrush and Mudbox give the ability to sculpt multiple objects. Yet both programs wont allow you to select then move, rotate or scale multiple objects together. Instead the user has to select and transform each object/part individually.

Yes, I have in near plans to make support of multiple objects. Now you can work with multiple objects, but you can't merge new objects into the scene.

I thought you could now have windows apps compatable Macs so it was not a problem any more?
(Making two versions takes away time from improving the apps)

2.08 is released. The list of changes:
1) I have tried to make possibility to export layers as morphs. If you are exportiing LWO file morphs will be inserted into the file, if you are exporting OBJ, morphs will be stored as additional objects. To export object with morphs please press "Add morph" in export dialog. Then you should select the layer that will be used as a morph.

2) Incremental saving
3) Navigation style is slightly changed. The pivot point is a last picked point. Also you can pan using MMB without ALT.
4) Now you can import UV-set. It is important because somtimes you need to adjust UV-set slightly after you have drawn something over the object.
5) Bug with distortion of open edges of the mesh is fixed.
6) Pens, strips, masks, materials names are visible in hints.
7) Fully customable hotkeys on almost every action. Press "End" over the action item and define hotkey.

8) Interface improvements. A list of pop-up windows is extended

9) New tool - put picture along spline

10) Sculpt mode improvements - now pen pressure can change degre of action, not only radius. Action buttons rearranged.
11) LWO import improved. Now you can import LWO files with multiple uv-sets, but no more then one per face.
12) The problem or "spikes" during import is solved.
13) You can change freeze preview type

14) Pens panel does not lags when first clicked.
15) Objects/interface thumbnails can be removed permanently
16) Eraser of the pen works correctly now.
17) the list of input formats for pens/strips extended (+psd, mclp), it allows to transfer library of pens in more easy way.
18) New mode of pen pressure reaction - decrease radius&transparency simultaneously

19) The program has trial period 15 days and 2 type of licenses - professional (120$) and educational(89$).
Welcome to downloads!
Also, I have made 3 video/flash tutorials, you can find the in out forum
1) Interface basics
2) Using curves
3) Patterns and curves
