Even though i use Modo for most painting, it has no tool like the spline painting found in 3D Brush. The only program i know which can do this trick is Deep Paint 3D and that costs about $500 and hasn't been updated in how many years now ? 3D Brush is a bargain @ $70 even if i use it for just one function. So i purchased it too...

Andrew, if you are still reading here, I think Nate is very well-meaning, and I agree with what he says.

I understand and appreciated to read your story of work at GSC Game World. So it's easy to understand what you prefer here.

Maybe that is a good word to take: 'prefer'. Its meaning is clear, and appropriate, in North America or Europe. It is especially of culture in Europe.

So if you say something like 'We prefer you not use our software to make...', then you are making your point, without absolutism which upsets others.

Hope it helps, and kind regards,
Clive (Narration)

My posts were playing the devil's advocate - for the record all my software is legal for commercial use.

I understand the premise about software licensing. When painters sell original paintings, there is a declaration that the buyer owns the painting, but no rights to reproduce it and profit from the copies. In the case of the paintings, the originals can be resold, but I understand that can not apply to software.

Hey man you have done awesome with 3Dbrush. Very many people are talking about your product. Looks like there is quite a demand for your niche. I hope everyone supporting your efforts will be rewarded.

I respect peoples ethics. I think morals are important to any society.

It is your GOD part chokes me personally. Why is there a general assumption that people consider these beliefs real at all. From my perspective you are basically telling me to watch out or the KoolAid guy will drown me out or that Santa is having an affair with my wife.

I am an atheist and my values and ethics would never violate your software rules in anyway. Personaly, I do not require some idea of god to guide my actions. Whether I do something right or wrong has nothing to do with god it is out of respect of life not the hammer of the mean god idea. The mere concept of god is obviously provoking many horrible actions and too much blood spilt around the globe. Relax, it is just a harmless opinion caused by being informed by watching CNN on occasion.

I support your freedom of speech 100%. People should be able to state their wishes that the software will not be used for pornography or other illeagal activity. That said please understand it is very tiring with all these masses of people attempting to cram their personal religious concepts down others throats and into our tiny little brains.

I Hope you are making bank with your app. People are crazy and belief simply means one does not know.

Peace,
Stan

Oh yeah, I have noticed this thread is way off 3d 100% many posts ago. Man, but how interesting is this! SIMPLY AWESOME!

Hello all! Yesterday I have uploaded a new update 2.01F (it is beta update, not final one). Some features was add and the EULA was changed. This topic was discussed MANY MANY times, especially on Light Wave forums. So, we have done the new formulation of EULA. I think it is more appropriate for most of users. We cant remove this point at all, it is against our conscience. But many users tell that this kind of EULA is really better. So, the list of changes

Previous updates (until 2.01F):

1) Mesh is now subdivided not by usual scheme, when every edge is divided in two parts. Now every polygon is divided in dependence of its proportions. It is possible that some polygons will be subdivided in proportion 7:135 So it solves the problem of long polygons. It is comples and essential improvement.
2) 16-bit displacement is implemented. It is important because some application can't use 32-bit displacement.
3) Now you can change the radius of nodes in curves with RMB
5) The new option is add - "Ignore back faces" during the painting curves.

2.01F changes:

1) LWO import improved. z-axe flipped, textures should be loaded even from LW directories structure
2) Spacing option was add in pen options
3) Auto-mapping improved (algoritm was completely changed)
4) Some changes was made for compartability with Cross Over (Mac). But I was not able to check, changes was made by guess.
5) Some problems with alteration of HardwareID was fixed. (But it should be checked, it also was made by guess)
6) Lo-poly view was fixed (for newely imported files).
7) may be something forgotten...

EULA was changed, so that it sounds

Quote:
4.1 The 3D-Brush software should not be used in the production of any lewd or obscene materials as well as of any products which propagandize hatred against people. We understand that we are not able to check you, this is on your conscience, but we warn you about responsibility before God.
It means that if you really don't believe in God then responsibility before Him is not a question for you. But it is question of conscience in any way. The word "erotic" was changed with "lewd" because it is more appropriate.

The "Your accountability" in "Help" menu was removed.

You can download the full version (27 mb) from

http://www.3d-brush.com/files/eng/3d-brush-2-01F-en.exe

or update (7 mb) from

http://www.3d-brush.com/files/eng/3d...-en-update.exe

In the last case 3D-Brush of any version must be installed before.

If you will have any problems with this beta version you can simply reinstall the previous version, but I think that 2.01F works more stably and fastly. It is possible (i hope it will not occut) that Hardware ID will be changed in some cases. In this case I can send the new serial to you. Excuse me if you will have some inconvinience.

Thanks for the update Andrew.

PS. I think "beliefs" are what causes ALL the problems in the world. You do not need to offend others with a particular, maybe narrow (?), view/demand.

A. "Please do not use my app in a way that may be offensive to others"------you do not need to add/request more than that.

B. Like me, donate your body to the University and be assured of, at least, a short, usefull, "after life"! In unrecorded history the cure for whatever was found in my dead body!------now if thats not a pleasant thought I don't know what else?

Everyone note please!

I have uploaded the new update, 2.01G. The list of changes:

1) Very important change! There was a bug that has blocked most of hints. So now there is VERY many new hints, so the usage of 3D-Brush will become very easy and intuitive.

2) Manual udated.

3) LWO import improved, now the pivot point is used correctly. Many other bugs fixed. Automapping is impruved, but is better to load already mapped models.

4) The new command is add - Commands->Offset texture (Ctrl+Shift+F) This command can be used to edit tiled textures and creating tiled bump maps for textures. To use the new command you should load " plane1x1.obj" without smoothing, then load texture on current layer. Using this command you can offset the texture and geometry on it, so it is easy to create seamless textures&bump maps. It is useful to use this command with option "Pressure on color dependence"

5) The option "Pressure on color dependence" is now in top panel. It is convinient vbecause if you vill cange this option and then forget it, you will not understand why pen does not paints.

6) "Hide tool" is fixed

7) Hardware ID problem fixed. Now the new and old hardware ID-s will be valid.

The links:

Full version:

www.3d-brush.com/files/eng/3d-brush-2-01G-en.exe

The update (must be installed over 2.00 or later)

http://www.3d-brush.com/files/eng/3d...-en-update.exe

It is still beta.

Very nice, Andrew. Been too busy to play with it much so far, but looks great. At 70 bucks it'll probably be a must-have for a hobbyist like me who can't justify the expense of Modo or Zbrush. Thanks.

2.02 is ready!

Hi All! I glad to tell that 2.02 is ready to download! The list of changes:

1) New unwrapping tool, now it is wery easy to create uv-set for the model
2) Topological symmetry is implemented. You should define two symmetrical faces to define this symmetry. After that you can flip layers with symmetry or copy the layer to the opposite side.
3) LWO files can be used like brushes.
4) 5 types of color pickers are implemented - all of them are movable and resizable
2) Stability improvements, many bugfixes
3) Focal shift slider implemented
4) Flipping sliders on top panel (Focal depth & smooth degree are also there now)
5) Storing last folders
6) Now you can make your own custom fill patterns in Fill tool. They will be applied with cube mapping with soft edges. It allows to make seamless cube mapping
7) Cube mapping improved (in materials menu): preview during texture moving is now very convinient, cube mapping becomes seamless
8) Clone tool and Sculpt tool now uses alpha even if it is not round.
9) 3DB stores window position
10) Drawing performance improved
11) Hue variation is add to color change tool
12) You can pick top layer by pressing 'H'
13) Navigation with pen improved (it was difficult to navigate with pen)
14) Very many small bugfixes and improvements

It could be downloaded from our site:

that's a cop out. I'm really getting sick of software developers saying they now have a Mac solution, when the solution is to install windows, on their Mac.

you haven't said that Andrew so i'm not talking about you.
A real Mac version would be nice

EDIT: that wasn't against you either Brian

I just think it's a crazy, old hat, principle that all computers can not "play" a basic programme. The difficulties of converting individual programmes to suit different systems, with all the potentials for bugs, is too high.

I think it's the responsibility of the system makers not the app makers, to make usages compatible.

That war (pc/mac) is almost as old as the rift between Isaac and Ishmael.
The only result from discussing either is flames, spitting and hissing.

People in 3D who buy Macs instead of the PCs are most probably the same ones who live in the city and buy SUVs.

When they put a bumper sticker on it which says " It's an SUV thing, you wouldn't understand", they are 100% correct, I don't !

I had hoped my post would have avoided a slanging match.

Linux/Mac/Windows-----all should read any basic/uniform/accepted/regular/normal/common app.

Simple really.
