| Maya Personal Edition Free!
Was just made aware of this so had to investigate. get over to autodesk and download Maya PLE for free. The site says the software is Maya V7 but all images will be watermarked, No 30 day trial efforts going on here. Has anyone tried the software yet? Waiting for the 240mb download to land Any comments? thought this was a expensive piece of kit?

You will have logos on your image when you're rendering with PLE. Also it can not work with Gelato renderer. So you will still need something else for final rendering.

hee hee... How many years has the PLE been available ? from what i remember, import/export is also disabled. as Juan mentioned, it's a perfectly named piece of software. But that's about it. I find it is very frustrating to spend time learning something (and later modeling/texturing something you are proud of) which can not be used outside of the PLE. But if your ambition is to put Maya skills on your resume, then it's perfect...shorty |

I have no intention (at least, for now) to learn Maya. I just have it, 'cause I need to open files in .ma format from some of my books and tutorials. However, PLE supports NURBS, polys and subdivs, boolean operations on nurbs and polys, sculpting on nurbs, stiching multiple nurbs to one, multiple levels of subdivision on subdivs, converting subdivs to nurbs. I'd seen no polygon reduction in PLE or the ability to wrap one surface in another surface with different topology like it could be done in XSI. Maybe, I just missed those features.
