| Doodlin' Dude ![]() | Mind boggling
I don't like doing techno (non-organic) stuff so when I have to, I use Rhino. I just can't deal with all the hassles of poly-idiosyncricies - way too frustrating and time consuming. Even when I need to combine hardsurface art with organic, I do the organic model in Hexagon ('til something better comes along... hasn't for ages) and the techno parts in Rhino. If you want to see why the new Rhino 4 blows my mind when doing hardware modeling, take a look at the little features movies at this site.... http://www.rhino3d.com/4/newfeatures.htm Droolin' here Achin' to get hold of this!!

Hi Nate. Rhino 4 is pretty crazy, it's so far ahead of version 3 that i would hate to be without it. Plus they've already got experimental tools available for Rhino 4 that you can download from the Rhino 4 Labs page... Your head's probably gonna explode when you see what's in the works for Rhino 5. They leak some previews every now and then on the newsgroup and it's just awesome what they're working on in the non-public Rhino builds. I won't spill the beans here, that's for McNeel to do when the time is right. But for now, Rhino 4 is a really productive work environment... I've highlighted some of the major advancements in a thread a few weeks ago (things that are not all shown in the videos)... http://forums.polyloop.net/misc-disc...rhino-4-a.html shorty ![]() P.S. - Another thing never mentioned by McNeel but appeared in the last beta is preselection of edges and faces. While in a shade mode with visible isocurves, you can press CTRL+SHIFT+LMB to select an edge or face. Not all commands can use the pre-selection yet, but i have a fair idea of where this might be heading inthe near future... Last edited by jbshorty; 13th April 2007 at 03:35. |

JB... Thanks. Which newsgroup is that? Looked at your link... some awesome stuff, but hey... I'm hooked on Rhino and have been for a long time... it's mind blowing to see what they are up to. Seems I'm spread kinda thin - so busy I think I'm moving at the speed of light sometimes - and I love all the different software that is coming along now... that in itself is mind boggling too... makes my head spin. Plan to grab Rhino upgrade when things even out a bit... can't mention why, but I'm doing a business trip leaving for China tomorrow... very interesting stuff and a big surprise to me... (good surprise)... my candle burns on both ends and in the middle too... no complaints. (Now if the cash flow would catch up) see ya... |

the Rhino forums of course (i don't know why they call their forum a "newsgroup"). Just make sure you upgrade before the $100 discount expires! Good luck on your trip, i hope it works out well for you (and your pocket!). My company is sending me to Hong Kong and China again in June. This time I will try to make a short trip, otherwise the 3D world might be totally changed when i come home! So, are you going to China to make 3D models of President Hu Jintao with a little bt of "Nate Owens" flavor? shorty
