| XSI, Lightwave, Maya Blender?
I was wondering if XSI, Maya, Lightwave and most other software supports the playback of audio files during the animation preview because Carrara does not. This thread is not about Lightwave, Blender or True Space being the best but just a simple question of audio support.

Thats a very intense operation, please keep in mind that your system might have issues with it unless its very up to par. As to your question: XSI - yes. Maya - yes. LW - yes. From what I've heard. Maya is a bit much. And I doubt you'd want to pick that one anyway, a bit overwhelming for an individual. LW has crappy audio playback last I heard. XSI is the best choice out of those. I have messiah. Another choice if you don't mind a dedicated animating, shading and rendering package. And it plays audio with animation. Very well I might add. Smooth playback, etc.

My system is a Core 2 Dual. Carrara just can not play audio during previews regaurdless of the system. The audio support sucks in Carrara. I am getting decent with Carrara but I think it is time to move on. I doubt Carrara will mature as I had hoped it would. I think for the price XSI is what I wil have to invest in but I will look into Messiah. How much does it cost?

Messiah is $299 for workstation. And I'm sure you'd find it a lot easier to work with than XSI.

Yes. I've used Carrara since version 1. Still use it. Its fairly easy to learn. You just need to give it time and don't be afraid to ask for help. If you have IRC access you can join in the discussions on irc.freenode.net #messiah3d I'm on there right now along with others.

But it does go without saying that you should try any software before purchasing. I was considering that as common sense;)
