| Booh! ![]() | Hello there and welcome. I don't think that we want a Bryce forum. Here, we (nearly all) know and we like Carrara and Hexagon for Historical reasons but that's all . Plus, honnestly there is no match Carrara vs bryce (both in the same company), I suggest you to learn with Carrara. ![]() Anyway, if you read carrefully this post. We can tell that, depending of what you are posting, you may include any of your good shots, no matter the soft you used. |

| Now, I learn animation ![]() | jesterhawk, You can post Bryce screen shots and questions here if you want but I don't think there are many Bryce users to help you out. I doubt there is enough to make a new Bryce only forum. Bryce is a decent program. I used Bryce before Carrara was released. The GUI is kind of funky and out dated. Carrara 3 D basic would have been the better option. You would be able to upgrade to Carrara Pro and be familiar with the GUI. Last edited by medeamajic : 25th March 2007 at 05:49. |

| Studying 3D at nights ![]() | What a coincidence! I just stopped by to check whether there would be any Bryce help here and then I saw your post and then these discouraging replys. Jesterhawk, would you know if Bryce has never shown materials correctly for imported OBJ files? My OBJ's come in black no matter which app I used to create them, Hex, Carrara or SketchUp. I'm using 6.1 Did you have a question in your mind? |

| Now, I learn animation ![]() | The shader tree of Carrara and the material editor of Bryce can both do some incdredible things in the right hands. Bryce is decent but it should be so much better. I wanted dual monitor support and multiple views back when Corel owned Bryce. Daz Studio support in Bryce 5.5 was OK for a select few but there were so many things requested that Daz just blew off. Daz lost me as a customer with the 5.5 upgrade. I still have my copy of Bryce 5.0 but I don't knwo why. I am sure you would agree a decent modeling program would be a nice feature for Bryce 7.0. Bryce 7.0 may or may not mature that well. Now that Daz owns Carrara it would be wise to just stop develepment of Bryce since Carrara 3-D basic can do everything Bryce can do and a little more. Carrara Pro is Bryce on Steriods. Bryce, Poser and Ray Dream Studio were all great programs and served their purpose very well. As of now Carrara is the combination of all three programs. |

| Studying 3D at nights ![]() | I have both apps and I agree that Carrara is a better app as a whole. No question about it. But right now for me the Hex/Bryce axel works better because the dafault shaders are easier in Bryce and produce good results with less effort. But I plan to learn Carrara in near future too. It has good tools, an interface that suits me, real units as opposed to Bryce units (they really suck) and many more. But I would not kill Bryce. The render quality is superb, default materials work easily as you would expect and I like the DazStudio linkage. I salute Daz for incorporating that feature to Carrara too. Sorry about that Med. I've read your posts and I've learned to understand that you dislike it. Cheers! Last edited by Markku : 26th March 2007 at 23:19. Reason: changed my wording |

| Lord Jester of the Hawk ![]() | On the question about import. I have never gotten a OBJ to import correctly, however, I have imported many other formats and they were right. If I understand you correctly, no matter who creates them they have black textures. Also, I have used Bryce is version 2. I actually, have not imported anything yet with Bryce 6.1. Been just working inside the program. I will try it out and see if it works. As for the Carrara vs Bryce. I own Bryce and that is why I use it. If they offered a $6 deal on the full blown Carrara (instead of basics), then I would own that as well and see how much better it is. I don't doubt it is better, just can't afford it on my budget right now ![]() JH |

| Now, I learn animation ![]() | Markku, Daz can integrate Bryce and Daz Studio with Carrara in another 3 years. I do not want it top priority. Carrara 6.0 should be released by now. I do not know what the hold up is. I hope it is not Daz Studio integration keeping Carrara 6 from being released. If that is the case Daz will have lost me as a customer again and I will punch the CEO of Daz in the mouth (just kidding). |

| Studying 3D at nights ![]() | The faulty OBJ import looks to be a bug that was introduced with the 6.1 update. You can read it In Daz's Bryce forum. I have not had any problems importing OBJ's with 6.0. JH, it is strange that you do. After all that format is the most recommended interchange format. I really like it because Hexagon's OBJ exports render pure and beautiful in Bryce's Default wireframe mode. They are really easy to read with your eyes. Other formats bring along and show excess geometry. They just have to clean up the mistakes they made in 6.1 update. bwtr, in a way I agree with you, but IMO the reason why Bryce is a worthy entry level 3D app is because the results come really easy with it. Throw in a box, apply a ready-made metal/glass shader and render. The result is very convincing for a beginner and he did not have to set any lights or render parameters for the metal/glass to look right. Also the disliked GUI benefits beginners. Only one viewport, easily understandable object controls and those eyecandy tool palette icons etc. It is like Notepad at first, nothing too much or too complicated, but unlike Notepad, it grows with you offering those Deep 'this-and-that' Editors, hidden expert shortcuts and a whole lot more. It is not perfect, but good enough for many - and the price is low. There has got to be something mystical about Bryce to have survived after all the changes and hard times it has gone through. And that applies to Carrara as well! Proves they are good apps. Med, them getting Carrara 6 out is taking longer that I expected too. For me it is still bearable though. Think of Silo 2? That is taking painfully long! |
