If I wanted to do a simple cube or machine part, would I have to go through all this effort? Pinning and all?

No you could just use a cubic projection, or if it is a little complicated start with cubic and then select the detail areas for further unwrapping.

Part One appears to be broken

Hi, on two separate occasions I've downloaded the part 1 zip file but it appears to be corrupted, so it won't unpack. Part 2's ok it's just part 1. Anybody got a working part one zip, I could copy please.

One might suggest that a zip file which wont download with the very latest version of IE must be corrupt?

One might suggest that if a zip file download correctly with Firefox, Safari, Opera, ... but is corrupt with the very latest version of IE, then it means that the latest version of IE is corrupt ?

It's seems that IE 7 sucks with some Gzip server compression. I changed something else. Still lthe same?

Maybe 95 percent? of the world is using IE. The majority rules. Fix things so they do work in IE. Why should the majority change to suit the very small number of odd zips made?

Is it probably the non standard zip apps that people are using anyway?

I have problems with about 3 or 4 zips a year and many hundreds are downloaded.

It is strange the zip problems seem to be 99.9 percent at this site?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_web_browsers

For February, 2007

IE6 - 49%
IE7 - 29%
Firefox - 14%
Safari - 5%
Opera - 0.8%
Netscape - 0.7%
Mozilla - 0.2%

1 - it's only 80% for all IE
2 - it's only 30% for IE 7 (no corrupted zip with IE 6)
3 - Fortunately, it's not because a monopolistic company decide something that it became the norm, even when it's called Microsoft. That's why we are beginning to have CSS compliance, that's why we still have Java, that's why there are still some computer users who don't find "normal" to have to update their anti-virus several time a day.
4 - what are "standard zip apps", anyway ?

computing axiom: it's not because it doesn't work on your computer that it's broken. It may very well be (and often is) your computer that is the cause of the problem.

Internet Explorer Unsafe for 284 Days in 2006. And that means days where that a security hole was known, already used, and no patch was available from Microsoft.

So even if 80% of users are using it, I do really hope that the majority doesn't rule.
