| Lick it up ![]() | As Grendel mentionned it, are you sure that you have a REAL light (not Hdri or Ambient) ?

| Moderator ![]() | If possible can you just upload your file and I'll look at it, it will be alot quicker than playing tag. If you can't send an assembly room screenshot with the instances tab open so I can see your lights. Insert a spotlight, place it above and to the side of the diamond and then use a point at modifier and point it at the diamond. Also check sky light and not indirect light and turn on full raytracing. The shader room preview you see simulates a two point light setup. In C4 if you zoomed out in the shader room preview window you would see the camera and the two spotlights, in C5 I tried it and they are not visible but I believe it is the same setup. I agree with Pete I do not think you have a light inserted in the scene. |

| SILO abuser ![]() | Couple of things are wrong within your file: 1. First off, you need to donload latest fixes for your Carrara: there is no LightThroughTransparency option in your GlobalIlumination panel. 2. Your SpotLight is almost useless, since it's stuck on the floor, there is almost no point of using indirect lightning here. 3. Edges of the diamond need to be ceased (go into modeling room, then select all edges and cease). 4. Follow the example of lightning in Cornet HDRI scene supplied with your Carrara 5 (scene wizard), it is simple, yet, very good one, shows you using HDRI map as a source of global ilumination. 5. When you render glass like object, using caustics is highly recommended, to achieve more realism. Good luck ![]()

| Moderator ![]() | Take a look at you scene file now, good job on the diamond by the way. I creased the edges in the vertex room on the diamond and repositioned your light, also used the HDRI file from the coronet preset. If you are a new user of Carrara I would review the manual for how to position items in the assembly room and how lights work. Also go through the scene presets in the browser and look at how those scene are set-up and lit and where the camera is placed. The light through transparency was then checked in the render room as well as full raytracing and rendered. ![]() |
