I probably didn't make myself clear, for the stickers, would I have to scan it, take a picture of it or find it on-line to place it on the camera. Cause I want it to look realism or at least close enough.

I would take pictures of it...unless it's on the camera you're modeling

IT IS . The front stickers is easy, shoot in front of a mirror, but the back. I probably should scan it, since its almost flat.

Laugh

@Grendel
Thanks a lot for this tutorial.

I'm still learning how to "Think in 3D".
And shure, I had some problems doing this job.
Your tutorial helped me to build an object like I never did before.

Me, I'm happy

Hope, You will provide further tut's in the futur

Thomas

Looks good tweiss2000 , keep exploring the tools in Hex and theres no end to what you can make. Try the sports watch tutorial as well, it covers a different way to model in Hex that covers more of the toolset.

Hello-

Thanks for the great tut. I've been learning alot, but right now, I'm stuck on page 11 where you have to use the Radial Extrusion tool on your 12 point line circle to create the track ball. I've been looking everywhere but I can't find the Radial Extrusion tool anywhere. I've looked in the manual and have even tried other options but to no avail. If someone could show me where this tool is, that would be fantastic. Oh, and I'm working with v2.1. Thanks.

bradymac - if you have your right side palettes open when you select the extrusion tool you will see several icons for the tool in the properties palette. Use the spacebar to toggle through the different types of extrusion or click one with your mouse to select the one you want, radial.

Just what I needed!

Thomas, thanks for a great resource for 3d-heads like me - I've just bought Hexagon and Carrara and thus dicovered polyloop and it has been real boon.

Grendel - great tutorial, this has really got me going with Hexagon.

I have followed the steps rigourosly until about half way through (the eye on the back) and then I have branched off my own way, but making sure I tried all the tools and techniques you put in the rest of the tutorial.

See attached pic for where I'm at right now - lots more detailing to go, tho' I might start again, this time trying to model my actual camera.

One question for you, if you don't mind - is there any reason why I shouldn't use the built in smoothing fine-tuning tools to get hard edges (the 'breaks' tool), instead of creating extra polygons?

If anyone else is wondering about getting going with Hexagon, here's what worked for me:

1) Read chapters II-VI in the manual
2) Played about a bit
3) Followed first two tutorials (space cow and carafe)
4) Played about some more - learnt to incremental save A LOT
5) Followed this tutorial
6)

I do have quite a lot of experience with 3d apps, but haven't done an awful lot of modelling beyond basic stuff, so this really helped me.

Thanks again to Thomas and Grendel!

Staberinde - Great job, I'm glad you liked the tutorial. For your question on the use of breaks.. The tutorial was done in 1.2 which did not have the breaks function yet.

Even with breaks though I still find it nice to contol the amount of crease with the edges rather than using breaks since it only has a 100% strength setting. So unless you're making a mechanical object that had a machined edge you would not really want a 100% hard edge.

bad zip file

Grendel,
I can download camera tut but it will not open. The error I get is: bad Zip file offset (Error local header signature not found).
I have, however, successfully downloaded & run your watch tut.
Any ideas?

Download probs

Grendel,

Thanks for the reply, after I posted I had a sort of "Doh!" moment when I thought that might be why you hadn't used breaks. I see what you mean regarding geting more control, but I was just a bit concerned about a possible escalating polygon count if I use this technique a lot. I think I'll use both - breaks for hard corners and the edges for softer, more controlled corners.

Camelo, I don't know if you are using XP+IE like me, but I had the same problem when trying to download through my browser - I used an FTP prog instead (ACEftp in my case) and pasted the URL into it (just used copy shortcut) and that downloaded it fine.

Hope this helps!

Stabby

Hi Stabby,

Yes, I am using XP+IE. Thanks for that. I successfully downloaded by using your suggested method.

Or use Firefox.
I've seen IE having similar problems when the Apache mod_deflate module was used on the server.

Have heard good things about this tut for beginners. I just bought Hex 2 and am completely lost. It looks great can't wait to try this.
Thanks for taking the time to do it for us.

See in a week or two when I catch on

Blessings
Nams
