Modeling a Bottle Cap

For what it's worth .... there are other ways to do this, and I am a raw newbie ... but this is how I created a bottle cap for one of my renders.

I started with a cylinder, with two rows of facets on the side. I deleted the bottom face. Then I selected the top edge and chamfered that to give it a curve.

Then, I selected the edges inbetween the two rows of facets on the sides, and chamfered them.

Then ... on to part 2

Now, this was the first spot I needed to take a step that might be easier to do some other way .... but, I tesselated the area just above the chamfered side sections because the chamfering process left me with an open triangle that I wanted closed.

Then, I selected the facets that I had created by chamfering (but not the triangular bit), and I extruded that out some.

Then, I welded the top of that extrusion back into the base of the triangle.

Then on to part 3

As soon as I finished the welding, I selected all of the lower facets between the extruded sections.

Then I extruded them back and narrowed the back face.

That gave me the essential geometry which I then smoothed x 2 for the final bottle cap. Which, when mapped looks like the last image.
