Use of the RSS:

- What is the RSS?
The RSS is a kind of text format (often based on XML) which gathers information generated automatically by an Internet site. It was democratized with the massive arrival of "Blogs".
In general, it includes the last articles or messages posted on a site, or in this case, on a forum.

On this forum, it is possible to see the list of the last posted subjects.

- Which should I be interested in RSS?
The advantage of RSS feeds is that they gather information within a specialized software or of plugins for navigators and emailers. They will regularly connect (or upon request) to referred websites to look for new articles/subjets that are posted, the posts' title, and in certain cases (Eovia3D.net), the content of the messages.
Without having to go on the forum, you can see what is new.

- Which software can I use?
There are many software and navigators which support RSS feeds:
Safari for Mac OSX.4
The Mozilla suite.
Firefox with or without an extension (I use the famous Sage plugin)
Thunderbird (emailer)
RSSReader (dedicated software)
And a lot more (a search in Google will help you find all these readers)

Take care, Internet Explorer doesn't handle RSS feeds

- How to add a RSS feed?
That depends on the navigator or the plugin. In the case of Firefox, an orange icon appears in bottom right of the window. Click above to choose and save your feed.

- List of Eovia3D.net RSS feeds

• All new threads: the list of all the new threads started on the forum, in English and French
• Specific forums: Edit this link bellow and add the number (id) of the forums (forumids=X;Y, etc) you want to have listed in this feed. This forum id appears in the forum url. Example: http://www.polyloop.net/external.php...s&forumids=2,3
  To find the id, take a look at this URL: http://forums.polyloop.net/forumdisplay.php?f=21. f=21 at the end, includes the id, which is, as you guessed, 21.

Where can I find other RSS feeds?
In fact, a little bit everywhere on the Web. If a website site displays a small icon like or , or if your navigator posts small the icon of a RSS feed, then, you can add it.
For 3D, here is a small list of RSS feeds:

-Qu'est ce que le RSS ?
Le RSS est un fichier au format texte (souvent basé sur du XML), qui regroupe des informations générées automatiquement par un site Internet. Ceux-ci ont été démocratisés avec l'arrivée massive des "Blogs"
Ces informations sont en général les derniers articles ou messages postés sur un site, ou dans le cas présent, sur un forum.

Sur ce forum, il est ainsi possible d'avoir la liste des derniers sujets postés.

-Quel intérêt ?
L'avantage des fils RSS, est qu'ils sont souvent regroupés au sein d'un logiciel spécialisé ou de plugins pour navigateurs et emailer. Ceux-ci vont regarder régulièrement (ou à la demande) sur les flux référencés, si de nouveaux articles/sujets ont été postés, et dans le cas échéant, vous affiche le titre, et dans certains cas (Eovia3D.net), le contenu du message.
Sans avoir à aller sur le forum, vous pouvez ainsi voir ce qui est nouveau.
L'essayer, c'est l'adopter.

-Quels logiciels utiliser ?
Il existe de nombreux logiciels et navigateurs qui supportent les fils RSS :
Safari pour OSX sur Macintosh
La suite Mozilla.
Firefox avec une extension (il en existe plusieurs, dont le plus célèbre est Sage, que j'utilise)
Thunderbird (mailer)
RSSReader (logiciel dédié)
et bien d'autres. Un petit comparatif sur le Journal du Net (décidément )

Attention, Internet Explorer ne connaît pas le RSS (raison de plus pour essayer Firefox ;)

-Comment ajouter son fil RSS ?
Plusieurs solutions existent, et cela dépend du navigateur ou du plugin. Dans le cas de Firefox, un icône orange apparaît en bas à droite de la fenêtre. Cliquez dessus pour choisir et enregistrer le fil.

-Voici la liste des fils RSS

• Tous les nouveaux sujets : la liste de tous les nouveaux sujets commencés sur le forum, en anglais et français

• Forums spécifiques : Editez le lien ci-après, en spécifiant à la fin le numéro du forum. Dans l'adresse, les forums 2 et 3 ont été indiqués. http://www.polyloop.net/external.php...s&forumids=2,3
  Pour trouver le numéro d'un forum, regardez l'adresse ci-après : http://forums.polyloop.net/forumdisplay.php?f=21. f=21 à la fin, indique le numéro. Simple, non ? Pensez juste à séparer les numéros par une virgule.

-Ou peut on trouver d'autres fils RSS ?
Un peu partout en fait. Si un site propose un petit icône ou si votre navigateur affiche le petit icône de fil RSS, alors, vous pouvez l'ajouter.
