I think the T-Spline people are going in the right direction. This is something that has a huge market so there is a lot of incentive for them to get it to integrate smoothly into everyone's workflow, Industrial Design, Reverse-Engineering, Modeling, Animation and any other profession you can think of currently having issues with integrating polygons and nurbs information.

They seem to be very responsive to user input, too. I think the combo of Rhino4/TSplines will be very powerful in the ind design market. Especially for reverse engineering (as you mentioned)...
