[Others]History Is Dead...

...and Spaceclaim is it's killer. This is incredibly exciting CAD software. With this program, you can fully edit Nurbs models without any construction history. Somehow the developers have created methods to identify "features" in what's considered to be a "feature-less" imported CAD model. So you can do all types of edits with imported data, such as :
  • change fillet radii
  • adjust shell thickness
  • adjust draft angles
  • move and/or duplicate ribs, holes, and bosses
  • move/scale/rotate/bend selected faces
It seems to be no "smoke and mirrors" trick or false advertising. When you transform a selection of faces, holes, etc then all other joined faces follow those changes in real time. Features such as fillet maintain their tangency. All trimming is accurately rebuilt. Even when you move a hole out past the boundaries of it's neighboring B-reps, it rebuilds the model as if you'd booleaned that "feature" by intent. This program is also a Nurbs modeler, with support for such features as real-time symmetry.

Why am i excited? Because it was previously available as a "subscription" software with annual charge of US $1700. But now they have just released two other versions (LT for $695, and LTX for $895)... Spaceclaim LTX and Pro can import and export Rhino 3DM files directly. This means for any Nurbs modelers which can write 3DM files (Rhino, Amapi, MOI, etc...) there is no reason to create extra files to go into Spaceclaim. Drool over these videos...

http://www.youtube.com/results?searc...im&search_type=

I do not work for Spaceclaim. Just a person excited by the possibilites of this emerging technology. I see this as the future of CAD. And if it can save me hours of editing time for my work, I will be very happy. I'm planning to try the demo this week. Will report back my findings...

I’m practicing Rhino intensively now until preordered “Official modo Guide 301” by Mr. Ablan will be released.
shorty, I’m very interested in Spaceclaim by that you who mastered Rhino are so excited.

I am looking forward to hear further reports concerning Spaceclaim from you.

yes, it's something like that ! My only concern is about their license policy. the guys who started this company are "old-schoolers" of the CAD world. So i expect their pricing/upgrade policy to be the same. The software purchase entitles you to all upgrades distributed for the 2007+ software, until the next major version is released. And I've not seen any info about an "upgrade" poath from LT/LTX 2007 to the next major version. It might be required to buy a new license at full price. I will call them later today and report back on this here...

Here in Japan, till end of April the general agency is offering SpaceClaim LT (Japanese ver.) at $990 (regular price is $1,280) with the Perpetual Licenseand the first years subscription service.

I'm worry about whether I can have time to verify LT enough till end of April.

OK. I had a conversation with someone at Spaceclaim today. And here is what i found out:

LT and LTX versions :
  • LT, LTX, and Pro all have the same modeling and dimensioning tools.
  • LT does not have import/export of Rhino 3DM files.
  • LTX does have import/export of Rhino 3DM files. This version was created in partnership with McNeel for the Rhino users. It can only be purchased through an authorized Rhino reseller.
  • LT and LTX are supported only by e-mail and forums, and Spaceclaim will not provide tech support for versions older than the current release
  • Version 2008 is planned for release during April 2008, so if you buy LT ot LTX now, you will receive the 2008 upgrade for free
  • There is no upgrade for LT and LTX versions. You get upgrades during the first 12 months, but after that your only option is a discount towards the Pro software. Or you can buy a new license of LT or LTX.
Pro version :
  • Has full access to the API, and offers live tech support
  • SpaceClaim Pro is $1,795.00 for the software + $545.00 for the first 12 months maintenance.
  • The data exchange module is $450.00 for the software + $150.00 for the first 12 months maintenance.
  • SC Pro has an annual maintenance charge of $545, but from what I've heard you get upgrades to the next version as long as your subscription is current
So that's everything in a nutshell. I plan to start demo'ing it this weekend...

Thanks for detailed information.

I think SC is so remarkable prog, but regretfully it seems to be expensive to enjoy as a hobby.
