[Rhino]Rhino Architectural plug-in

McNeel has started leaking information about a new Rhino plug-in called "Athens" which adds parametric modeling for architecture (stairs, walls, doors, rails, buttresses, windows, etc...). They expect to release a public beta in a few months. Combine this with the new "Arch Cut" and "Squish" tools and Rhino 4 is starting to look like a serious competitor in the archviz market. (Arch Cut is used for sectioning models and also for developing tile patterns of flooring and manufacturable 3D forms, Squish is used to flatten 3D forms into panels for manufacturing).

Interesting news. I wonder which way they'll go with Vista and all that mess and how that will all pan out.

Here's a link to the Wiki page about Rhino on Vista. What they've done right now is set it up that Rhino can run with OpenGL on Windows, and with DirectX on Vista. This is only temporary. McNeel is hoping to have Rhino running properly on Vista soon, but that also depends on how Microsoft fixes the mess they've created for 3D programs...

AsuniCAD has just release the first public WIP of this plug-in. Formerly named "Athens" it is now offically called "VisualArq". Here is the link to the announcement on the Rhino forum, and the direct link to the download...

Not sure. Since it's being developed by McNeel Europe, i would guess on the lower end of Rhino plug-ins, maybe around $300 (reasonable for professional users). But it's only my guess of course. I can't be held responsible for the things i say...
