Question C4D - Body Paint

I downloaded the demo of Maxon Body Paint - assuming that it is a stand-alone 3d painting module?

Is this correct?
For instance, can I import/load an .obj file made in another package (I do not have C4D) and apply the paint tools to that file?
Would the .obj file have to have a uv, or can Body Paint apply that?

I have been looking over the rather complex pdf manual for Body Paint, but so far have not unraveled this mystery.

Thanks.

As far as i've understood, now BP and the Core C4D are in v10 one single application, so yes it's standalone. If you've got a look on the additional modules list, BP is no more one of them http://www.maxonshop.com/row/gp/prod...3905341-4781//

That's correct Nate C4d base includes bodypaint now and vice/versa. So if you get one you get the other free. C4D/bodypaint has allot of texture projection features as well as LSCM unwrapping like Hexagon. I have V10 as well(studio) and it is a great package.

Thanks!

Just downloaded the demo for BP and haven't had a good look at it yet, I need to get into the manual and do some digging.

Any tuts for dummies on this ?

Maybe I'm living in a fantasy world, but was hoping to find a way to accurately paint directly on a model without going through the unwrapping, seaming, pinning mumbo jumbo.

They do have a wizard set-up for painting but it's really better to unwrap it and then paint.

I've seen Body Paint R3 still available as standalone application. But it's price is equal to the price of Cinema 4D R10 (which includes BP indeed), so there is no reason to buy BP standalone.

hi nate. as far as i know, the only true automatic UV method is still ZBrush's AUV tiling. In modo, i will sometimes select all the polys of a model, then unwrap the whole thing at once, giving each polygon a seperate UV space. You could try a similar approach in C4D/BP, but this depends on how good BP is at painting across seams. I've heard it's pretty good, so it may work...

Yes, BP is now included base C4D base package - sharbor.com also has some good prices.

I recently picked this up after having a love affair with the demo - playing around with the "Whimp" and "Flabio" characters sold me - I've said elsewhere that C4D feels like what Carrara would have been with continued development...

I like the package a lot!

What got me interested in C4D was trying to get my MOI models >cleanly< into Lightwave and XSI - out of all my 3D apps, Cinema 4D consistently had MOI's models looking EXACTLY the same way they did in MOI - very robust and clean importer for sure.

I was under the impression that there are two versions of BP. One being integrated with C4D (what hat been the seperate purchase BP module for C4D in previous versions) and the other standalone, which does not contain C4D as part of it but is just BP.

Looking at the Maxon on-line shopping page about 10 minutes ago, it seems this is correct (two products - BP alone or the Studio package). See the screen caps from their site...
Kinda pricey

Nate, you are watching wrong page. Studio bundle is most powerful and expensive Cinema bundle. What you need called CINEMA 4D R10. Not "studio", not "XL".
Go to "software" menu item, and choose "CINEMA 4D R10" from the list.

Yes, C4D competitive upgrade over at sharbor is ~$760, the XL package which I grabbed was around $1700 - I couldn't resist and added the dynamics, hair and mocap...
