Basic walk animation - Polyloop

Hi, I am a mature(see old, 59) full time student in Multimedia. Had to retire from work with work related illness, and have just started in 3Danimation in collage with Lightwave. I have downloaded Carrara from Daz and like it better. I have produced the basic figure, all of its pivot points,and the correct child parent relationships. I now need to animate a walk sequence, simplistic and very basic at the moment. I am having problems with working out the timeline and maybe IK's, can anybody assist me?
