| Making a Realistic tree branch?
Forget about tree trunks or leaves, I would like to construct a realistic tree branch, with subbranches, all having bumps and twists and curves as in real life. With all the plant making apps, freebees and tutes everywhere, I can't seem to find anything that approaches this aim! All sorts of problems seem to arise when trying to make in Carrara or Hexagon. (Even more when I try to texture!) Can anyone help me please? |

Thanks, I have that one. Like all the apps I know they really are not realistic. All sorts of making and texturing problems seem to arise when trying to get the proper results in Hexagon type modellers. |

Hi BWTR, I've done this before but it simply takes a ton of work. I did do it in Hexagon (including shader domains) but modified the texture UV in Carrara and then exported it to Photoshop to build the final textures using photos of bark. I had to rescale/reposition all of the geometry in the Carrara UV editor. In fact, the modeling went pretty fast. The texturing and UV adjustment took about 5 times as long. Sounds like something I could do for my Carrara Dark Arts tutorial series. It'll have to wait until I have a break in my schedule, however. I wish the was a fast and easy step-by-step I could list but that wasn't my experience. Of course, I've been known to do things the hard way. :D Mark |

Mark, I should have mentioned that this exercise started for me by trying to follow the CG Arena Tute "Making of Raindrops" The tute, for 3dsMax looked so easy! That tute may help to produce a Carrara/Hex version if you understand the Max workings. |
