Problems with importing .3ds

I'm trying to use models that I've bought from TurboSquid. I bought them to save time, but the work I have to do to make the models usable is a hassle.

When I import .3ds files, the textures get messed up. Everything ends up with 100% in the reflection channel. Also, when a texture is used more than once, it seems that carrara creates a duplicate texture for each time that it's been used, which is really bad for trying to use these low poly models for a game.

Any ideas on how to keep this from happening on import, or how to edit the reflection channel for many textures at once?

The 100% reflection likely is due to the fact the model had no reflection map so Carrara is just compensating. Something I have noticed on models I've imported as well.

Hmm. Any chance of a screenshot to help explain the duplicate texture problem? The only thing off hand I can think of is to manually set identical textures to all the models you wish to use a single texture.

Thanks for the reply. Yes, I've been manually fixing the textures but it's been allot of work. I bought a set of about 20 buildings, and some of the buildings had about 50 textures that needed fixing.

Here's a screen-grab:

http://www.chamberofchat.com/gamesam...ingproblem.jpg

Each object in the building has a bunch of shading domains, and it seems to me that when Carrara concerts the 3ds file, instead of considering that the same texture might be used in several shading domains, it generates a separate texture and bitmap for each domain, making the file-size exponentially larger.

Anyway, I can fix it manually but I'd rather have a work around because the whole point of spending money to buy these files is to save time.

Is there a way to edit multiple textures at once, eliminating the reflection channel in all of them?
