As in duplicate a whole character rig? Or just portions? You can duplicate with symmetry (ie. duplicating arms/legs over an axis) using duplicate with symmetry in the edit menu. You can duplicate a complete rig by selecting its root and using ctrl-d to duplicate or access the command from the edit menu. If that doesn't help, please be more specific.

If you want to duplicate an attached rig without having to detach the skeleton first try my plugin. It's free! http://www.associatedfx.com/duplicateAttached.html To use it, select all the attached objects in your rig (not the skeleton) and run the command from the Skin menu. It'll duplicate the skeleton with it. If there is animation, it'll dupe that too but you should group it together afterwards if you want to move it around, just like any other object. Cheers, Mike |

Thaks for the suggestions but it seems like there should be a one step copy. What if I want to make an army of cloned characters? I can't seem to copy both the mesh and the skeleton together. The Copy command is grayed when the skeleton is attached the skin. If I want to copy the whole character I need to detach the skeleton. Then the mesh "skin" snaps back to its original shape leaving the skeleton in some odd configurration. In other words how do I make a duplicate copy of the whole rigged character so that I have "twins", without rearranging the skeleton and reattaching the skin?

Definitely try out my plugin then. It does do what you are looking for. A couple notes. Select ALL the skin objects and not the skeleton. Also, it is best to duplicate before starting any animation, otherwise your duplicate will have the exact same keyframes as the original. If you can't do that, then you can always duplicate and then group all the animated parts and move the group instead. Cheers, Mike |

Another way to do it is to save the character to a file after rigging. Create a file for your scene. Then use import on the first file, use import again as many times as you need. Now, it really depends on how you work what you need, but Mike's plugins are really nice. If you are going to do an army though, you might want to look into inagoni's replica, I know it's been used to replicate 100s of animated Poser characters...
